With illness and death of loved ones, war in Gaza and Ukraine, out of control US politics and God knows what else, some years like 2025 deserve to be thrown on a bonfire.

But hope springs eternal.

So I ended 2025 and started 2026 with the first cold I have had in months.

But let's be grateful for any good things from 2025.

I can't think of many, but here goes:

- saving the stray cat 'Sissi' from near death and adding her to the household
- Heated Rivalry saved television
- I decided to retire over the next year or so

What good things can you reflect back on for 2025?

I stepped down to 30 hours per week.

Made a new friend at work and his beautiful young family.

Ukraine held on for another year, defying Trump's pressure to fold. They blew up Russia's bombers on the ground!!!

Connected online with the younger brother of a classmate from high school. He's a great storyteller and it has been great hearing his accounts of the path he has come.

Canada and China and Denmark handed Trump's ass to him on a platter, so that was encouraging.

Newsom has at least begun to make a full-throated attack on Trump, and that's better than the rest of the party.

My pickup truck just turned 30. It has been a workhorse I have loved since I bought it used in 2012. It only has 115k miles on it.

I met Thad1527 on my trip to DC and it made the whole trip worthwhile, even though the protest was a bust.

My uncle was diagnosed with prostate cancer but it was caught in time to treat it.

Sad thought, but given what I hear good mechanics say on YouTube, we can probably forget about any 2026 truck lasting 30 years. Once those electronics act up, it's a hopeless money pit.

The '95 PCM cannot be replaced. You have to send them off to have them repaired.

I'll not live long enough to ever afford a 2026 truck anyway. No danger.

Ah, yes...I've also heard those YouTube mechanics discuss new parts availability issues for 90s vehicles...
