My partner and I have been totally monogamous for many years, so we have never really worried about getting STDs, and so were not in the habit of using a condom when we have anal sex. But last year my guy came down with a urinary tract infection (UTI) which was probably caused by E.Coli bacteria being introduced to his penis by my rectum. It was quite painful for him, but once he saw a urologist and got the right antibiotic it cleared up. We were very careful after that, didn't have anal sex for quite some time, but recently we screwed up and had unprotected sex. And tonight he is showing symptoms of another infection--burning sensation when he urinates, and just generally feeling achy and miserable. So now it's another trip to the urologist and another course of antibiotics. I feel so bad for him, and of course I feel guilty. I try to keep myself clean back there, and it certainly seemed clean at the time, but still some bacteria can persist. So anyway, guys, my advice is this-- even if you are in a monogamous relationship, if you are going to have anal sex, wrap it up every time! I know I will never make that mistake again. ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) bb

Since we apparently cannot wash all the bacteria off spinach, etc., I don't see what chance one would have with the colon. Clorox enema? I think not.

Good Post !!

Many individuals are under the impression wearing a condom prevents 1) STD's (HIV being chief among them) and 2) Pregnancy (hetero.) And yes they do.
Wearing a condom during anal sex is very sound and safe practice for monogamous couples as well. There are many bacteria (naturally occuring, and must be present) residing within the intestines through to the colon - e.coli is one. There are also bacteria & parasites (giardia) that can be ingested via food, & water and transmitted to a partner via unprotected anal intercourse, and anal-oral sex. If an individual has unknowingly become infected with Hep. A,B,or C unprotected anal intercourse, and/or anal-oral sex can present a route of transmission of the potentially deadly Hep. A & B, and lethal Hep.C

Knowledge is power - be safe.

Great advice for everyone!

Thanks for sharing your experience, bootyboi. While my partner doesn't like them, I prefer to use condoms when we have anal sex. Even though he cleans himself prior to sex I feel better knowing there will not be any after effects.

^ i agree. my bf and i have been together for a long time and we never used condoms.never had any problems. maybe you two should switch it up.can he bttm?

Wont work.
My sentiments exactly.

Anyway, thanks for the post. It's one more good reason to always have protected
sex. UTIs are uncommon in men until they reac their senior ages, but nevertheless, when you introduce foreign maladaptive bacteria near the urethra, trouble can brew.

yeah, after almost 14 years wev've never had any problems either

are you sure it wasn't something else? i didn't think a UTI would set in so quickly...but yes, there are plenty of things to consider in the sexual realm
