Antony and the Johnsons Announce New EP

On April 26, Antony and the Johnsons release the Swanlights EP digitally and on 10" vinyl via Secretly Canadian (that's the stark cover art above). Carrying the same name as the band's last album, the EP features the title track, as well as two new B-sides and a remix of "Swanlights" from synth-drone warlock Oneohtrix Point Never (who collaborated with Antony on a remix of the title track to his own LP, Returnal, last year). The 10" vinyl edition will be made available a little bit early for Record Store Day on April 16; a CD release of the EP is also planned for some time in the future.

As of now, Antony and the Johnsons have one performance planned: March 2 in Long Beach, CA at the smart-people-talking-about-smart-things TED Conference.

Former Hercules And Love Affair member Nomi Ruiz is fronting new dance outfit Jessica 6, who will release their debut album See The Light on June 7th. She got old Herc collaborator Antony Hegarty of Antony and the Johnsons to join on new track "Prisoner of Love", which you can download below along with another new number, "White Horse".

We are delighted to present a preview of the long-awaited film with and by Charles Atlas and Antony and the Johnsons for the Closing Gala. In 2006 Antony and Charles Atlas took their collaborative and critically acclaimed performance TURNING to major cities in Europe - a sensual and moving exploration of femininity and the basic desire of belonging. The film explores the heart of the tour and the live performance, which is staged around bodies that are exposed in their fragile and diverse beauty under the limelights. Through its synthesis between Antony´s songs, Charles Atlas's strong imagery, and the life stories of some of the beauties who performed on stage, the film creates an intimate and unique expression of the themes around identity and humanity that are ever present in Antony´s artistic universe and unique voice. 'Turning' is shown in an almost complete version at CPH:DOX and will no doubt be a highlight of this year's festival.
 
ANTONY AND THE JOHNSONS: SWANLIGHTS One-Night-Only Performance Commissioned by The Museum of Modern Art at Radio City Music Hall January 26th


The Museum of Modern Art has commissioned Antony and the Johnsons to perform Swanlights, on Thursday, January 26th, 2012 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Featuring a 60-piece orchestra, the performance piece is conceived as a new commission especially developed for the January 26th performance, and an evolution of the highly acclaimed The Crying Light, which was presented at the Manchester Opera House for the 2009 Manchester International Festival. Envisioned as a meditation on light, nature, and femininity, Swanlights includes songs from all four of Antony and the Johnsons’ albums (self-titled, I am a Bird Now, The Crying Light, and Swanlights), set to symphonic arrangements by Nico Muhly, Rob Moose, and Maxim Moston. It is produced in collaboration with light artist Chris Levine, lighting designer Paul Normandale, and set designer Carl Robertshaw. Antony and the Johnsons: Swanlights is organized by Klaus Biesenbach, Chief Curator at Large of The Museum of Modern Art and Director of MoMA PS1, with the assistance of Eliza Ryan, Curatorial Assistant, MoMA PS1. Klaus Biesenbach spoke with The New York Times today about the upcoming event.

Antony Hegarty has announced, via Facebook this morning, the follow-up to 2010’s album Swanlights. It’ll be released under the name ANOHNI, and bears the title HOPELESSNESS. The record is currently in production, and was announced . It was co-produced by Antony, Hudson Mohawke, and Oneohtrix Point Never.

Describing the project on Facebook, Hegarty said,"It's an electronic record with some sharp teeth."
