Ok.. here's the thing.. I have just joined the gym and because I'm 5'2 little man Im too embarrassed to go lol...

First because I will look like... well I dont know what I would look like... but ridiculous...
Second because I have never been to a gym before and have no idea what to do there #-o:o

so my question is... what is the best routing for newcomers to gain muscles? advice please?

Don't want to like like some little man pretending to work out not knowing what he's doing...

If you are new to the gym, you should invest the money into a personal trainer there for the beginning. He will explain everything to you and help you develop your first training routine.
Most gyms I know also offer beginner courses for starters which don´t have the quality of a personal trainer but also don´t cost half as much.

Yes, it costs money. But wrong training will cause harm to your body in short- or long perspective. We can explain proper form here but we can´t correct you while you do it, and thats where shit happens.

For information and workout ideas, his channel is quite good https://www.youtube.com/user/ScottHermanFitness?feature=CCAQwRs%3D
BUT please keep in mind that training on yourself without proper instruction inherits a high risk of injury.

I'm a Personal Trainer, but without knowing a lot more about you and the facilities at the gym it would be impossible to answer.

But they should have access to Personal Trainers if you want to spend the money, and if you don't, most gyms have gym instructors who can put together a program to suit your goals and make sure you understand how to do all the exercises involved. Is it a major chain-gym?

If you're completely new to exercising, then they will most likely start you off on resistance machines and progress to free-weights, but again - this depends on what equipment is there.

As for feeling self conscious or embarassed. Just remember that nobody is in the gym because they're complacent about the way they look.

The gym has all types and you will feel invisible because no one will notice you. Most gyms give you several hours of training to get you started. Just ask for help getting started. Do you have any friends who work out? It is more fun if you are with a friend, preferably cute and muscular. Getting started, the most important thing is to start light and do not be in a hurry to go heavier.

I agree with the others, it will be best to get someone who can help you at the gym. That way they can watch your form, and know your capabilities better than any of us can.

I also wouldn't worry too much about looking silly at the gym, no one is going to notice you. Most people are too absorbed in their own business (as they should be at a gym, its not a social gathering after all).

Someone who works at the gym should show you how the machines work & so on,you don't need a personal trainer because its their job to help you.....

You will enjoy it more and be more motivated to continue, if you find the time at your gym when the young guys work out. In most gyms, the morning seems to be the time for old folks who get up early. The fat old men like to walk around the locker room naked for some bizarre reason. Some younger guys come in for the noon hour, then more in the late afternoon. Don't stare, especially in the locker room as it is rude. But being around them will give you more energy.
If you still feel reluctant to take the first step because you will feel out of place, go in the morning with the old folks until you feel comfortable.

First, I don't agree with the above. I'm not a fat old man, workout in the early mornings before work and workout circles around those younger than me guys who've no idea how to effectively workout with proper form. Besides: I don't go to the gym to preen or be looked at...
Now that being said ;). Your gym probably offers FREE intro training already. Ask at the desk. Also ask from people who look like they are working out hard. We love to talk about our working out programs. ;)
don't worry...EVERYONE had a first day in the gym. Those who would look down on you are douches.

Also, if there's group fitness classes...give them a shot too. At least you'd meet people, get to feel more comfortable and you won't feel alone.
Remember, the gym is making money off of you if you never use your membership

First and foremost, your goal should be good health. Don't worry how you look as much as how you feel. A great looking body will follow. I agree that, if you can afford it, you should invest in a personal trainer. You are more likely to train if you are not training alone. Training with a companion is more effective, but a good trainer will motivate you and keep you company without wasting time talking with you too much. If you get a chatty personal trainer, get a new one. I have fun and talk with my trainer, but it never gets in the way of training. Do what the trainer says, don't complain and whine, and work hard. You will be happy with the results.
