Hey, I was just wondering if there's any Xenites here. I used to watch X:WP way back around 2000 up until the series finale. Loved that show, and I own the full series on DVD. Am I alone?

And Xenites are ... ? Xena Fans? Like that discus flinging screaming chick?

Ok .. well I watched a couple of episodes back then for shits and giggles :) Never could take it serious although I liked it :)

Well that's good. In retrospect, it was a bit "far out." Farce might even be the better word. But I had fun watching most of the episodes and the relationships between characters develop. I think it's something of a "cult" classic now... especially for the lesbians.

I just finished watching the whole thing with my boyfriend. I had never seen it; he has the whole series on DVD.

It took us a couple of years, because I would get overloaded on it. I honestly never really loved Gabrielle. But i'm really glad I saw the whole thing, and I think it works pretty well, overall. In another thread that's active in hot topics, on Buffy TVS, i noted that my boyfriend thinks that without xena, there would be no buffy.

And I think you're right, OP, that the series is really a farce. IT never hesitated to make fun of itself or be really, really silly. That part allowed Lucy Lawless to display herself as a character actor and physical comedy actor at the top level. I think she's *really* good.

Silly, but a lot of fun.

Yeah, I really love Lucy Lawless's job with the Xena character and series. One of my favorite episodes is Been There, Done That. Recall that one?

Uh..yeah..I'm a bit of a fan ;)

I just bought the entire series on DVD a couple weeks ago and am having mini marathons whenever I can.

Sometimes the comedy episodes got a little too slapsticky for my taste, but it was all in good fun. I miss the show a lot.

Any favorite episodes?

Off the top of my head.
Favorite action/drama episode: One Against an Army (where Xena has to fight the Persians and Gabrielle was shot with a poison arrow) or When Fates Collide (when Caesar creates an alternate universe messing with the Fates loom.)
Favorite comedy: Old Ares Had a Farm (Ares must create a new life after giving his Godhood up)

Oh my god, I loved Xena! Lucy Lawless and Kevin Smith were made quite the impression on me during my pubescent years. And then, later on, Carl Urban (who knew Caesar could be so damn hot). Callisto, hands down, my favorite character.

My favorites in no particular order would be...

Been There, Done That;

In Sickness & In Hell;

The Ides of March;

Fallen Angel;

Chakram;

Twilight of the Gods (I think that's what it's called);

There's more, but that's all I can recall right now. Oh, and Ares was so hot...

Don't remember the names of the episodes well enough to recognize them by titles, but i'll ask mitch about those, because he probably does.

...and, I asked him, and he doesn't! :-)

***SPOILER ALERT****

Been There Done That is the episode where the day keeps repeating itself for Xena, like 10+ times. In one of the days, Joxer dies; in another, Gabrielle dies; and in another, they all die. She finally figures out that she has to stop this feud between two rival families (ala Romeo & Juliette) and stop a few deaths in a short timespan immediately after sunrise. Humorous episode.

In Sickness & In Hell is the episode (after Xena reunites with Gabrielle after Gabrielle falls into the lava pit with her daughter) where Xena gets head lice and Gabrielle catches some sort of skin fungus. One of my favorite scenes from that episode is when Gabby tries to catch a bunny for their lunch and it attacks her (it's in homage to Monty Python).

The Ides of March is the episode where Xena tries to assassinate Caesar, but is stopped by Callisto's temporarily-released spirit. Just when things seem to be on track, the frustrated Callisto breaks Xena's spine with her chakram, paralyzing her. Then Xena and Gabrielle are crucified as Caesar gets assassinated by the senate.

Fallen Angel is the episode that follows The Ides of March, and concerns Xena and Gabrielle becoming Archangels and joining the fight against the forces of Hell. Long story short, Xena confronts Callisto and sacrifices her own "light" to redeem Callisto, but in turn becomes a demon. The episode ends with the now "good" Callisto resurrecting Xena and Gabrielle.

As for the other two, have your bf explain it, my wrists are tired, lol.

...and, I asked him, and he doesn't! :-)

Ok then, the other two I can sum up pretty easily...

***SPOILER ALERT***

Chakram episode that follows Fallen Angel. Gabrielle and Xena are back, but Xena's lost her "dark side" and fighting edge. Meanwhile, Ares and a rival war God Kal are racing to recover the "Chakram of Light" which has the power to kill Gods. Only a "pure" soul can carry it from the temple, though. And since Xena doesnt' have her dark side, she can handle it. In the end, Xena nullifies the chakram's god-killing abilities by fusing it with the chakram of darkness, creating her uber charkam, and restoring her kick-ass fighting skills.

Here's a short clip of that:

Finally, in Twilight of the Gods Xena's just running away from the Gods, trying to have her baby (the Fates told them that the birth of Xena's child would ensure their death). Hercules helps Xena and in the end kills Zeus with a titan bone. The end.

I watched Xena until they put it on cable, at the time I didn't have it, and so never watched the last like 3 years or so of the show.
I have seen a few, and I liked the earlier version of the show much better.
All in all though, I thought it was good.

Ares was so hot...
Surprisingly, I was really only so-so on Ares until recently. I chose the screenname more because there are really only two leading men in the Xenaverse, and there wasn't a chance in Tartarus I would choose the name Joxer. I had a mad crush on Virgil back in the day though.

I didn't notice Ares's hotness until I recently watched Old Ares Had a Farm. He had lost his powers and his evil tendencies and was so damn cute. It also helped that he had a haircut and his vest was off most of the episode. :luv:

...and, I asked him, and he doesn't! :-)
2/3 of the episodes that I listed earlier were from the final season, when the show had been banished to less desirable stations and timeslots, so he might not have seen them. Season 6 (the final season), other than the finale, was an awesome season IMO. It also included the Norse Ring trilogy (which I forgot to put on my favorites list).

Here's a site that gives just about all the information possible on every episode. Some of the commentaries make me laugh so much.

thanks for the link; will check that out. actually, he has (and we have) seen the whole thing; he just doesn't remember show titles (although he pretty much remembers what happens in each episode).

I honestly thought that the last two-episode story line was a fitting way to bring it to an end. You're right, I think, that season 6 had a lot of good stuff in it (and the Norse stuff was pretty cool).

Xena's one of those shows i wouldn't go outta my way to watch, but did enjoy the shows i've seen. and how fucking hot was Kevin Smith?

To the TC, the episode you're thinking of is "God Fearing Child" Lol;) It's sad that I remember that.

But I must confess I love the show! I'm 20 now and I've been watching it since it was still on the air. I managed to get all the seasons on DVD a few years ago and occasionally pop a disc in for old time's sake.
For the past month I've been rewatching all the seasons. I usually start with season 2 or 3 because the first season just doesn't compare IMO, not counting Callisto's first appearance, because I love/hate her.

My favorite episodes are:

One Against An Army- This episode really focuses around Gabby and Xena's relationship. It shows just how much Xena is willing to give up to save her. I always tear up when I watch it. There're so many little moments that speak SO loudly in this ep. Like when Gab and Xena are in the storage shed in Tripolis. They're sleeping, and Gabrielle rolls over and weakly strokes Xena's hair. You can just tell how much she admires and loves her. And I could go on about this one for a while! So I'll stop Lol.

Forgiven- I DESPISE Tara for most of the episode, until Gabby beats the shit out of her, which is long overdue by the time it happens. I love all of Gabrielle's fight scenes. It's captivating to watch her beating up evil people with a staff for some reason (not that Tara is evil, but she is, as Gabrielle puts it, 'obnoxious'). The ending tells a lot about Xena too. She doesn't go with Gabrielle and Tara to be cleansed and forgiven of her past sins, and that's a really powerful scene because one of Xena's primary driving forces is her guilt. It's a part of her identity and she doesn't expect or want forgiveness in that way.

Takes One To Know One- The classic murder mystery episode. I'm a sucker for it. Plus it brings together a lot of key characters into one episode and it's refreshing to see how they interact with each other. :-)

Crusader- The actress who played Najara did a fantastic job! This is the perfect example of how one can be deceived by appearances. Najara seems like the perfect warrior: strong, virtuous, wise, and so sure that she's fighting for the greater good. Gabrielle is taken by her words and the ideals she talks about, but Xena isn't fooled. She even says at some point in the episode (at least I THINK it was this episode) that something that seems too good to be true usually is. Thankfully, she ends up saving Gabrielle from the fantical lunatic that Najara turns out to be.

A Family Affair- The end of Hope (finally!). I oddly feel a bit sorry for her though in this episode. Even after everything that's happened, she still wants her mother's love. But she's inherently evil and thus as Gabby said "I did love you. I just had to stop you." As the episode ends, Xena and Gabrielle are outside basically just soaking everything in. And even though Gabrielle acknowledges that her daughter is finally gone and it's over, she suggests that some things are never really over, but just keep coming back into your life in a different manner. She's obviously still depressed and tired, but places her head on Xena's shoulder, symbolizing that she'll be okay as long as they're together.

I also love Hudson as Callisto. She's my favorite villain in the show.
And I could go on and on but I'll stop here!
