I detest rubbers. I feel next to nothing on top, plus it acts like a compression stocking on my cock and force the blood out if it even when I use Magnums. Have never been able to cum in one. On the bottom, they just feel weird and actually irritate my anus.

I haven't been able to find a site that give the protocols. How many days prior to a raw encounter do you have to start taking the stuff? And how many days afterward?

You should seek this advice from an experienced M.D. on PreEP because the pills are by prescription anyway. Since preEP is new and not widely used yet, you won't find clear answers. These preEP drugs like Truvada were studied only based on everyday use. There isn't a magic pill that you take a few days before and hope it works to prevent HIV. Doctors will tell you to use it everyday regularly and at $1,200 a month, I doubt a lot of men out there are using it regularly.

If you have trouble maintaining an erection you could try an adjustable cockring. I get soft easily, but when I wear a ring I can even maintain an erection when I'm blind drunk. Otherwise, just stick with condoms. There are other STDs than AIDS, you know. Maybe you need to try another kind of lube?

Pre-exposure antiretroviral prophylaxis doesn't really exist outside of the dreams of a few pharmaceutical marketing people. There's been limited studies of couples where one person is HIV- and the other is HIV+. And there's a few studies looking at Africa where attempts at controlling HIV have been such a failure. The studies in Africa assume daily use of antiretrovirals (not just "when needed") and even then, the infection rate is reduced, not eliminated.

You have about 3 options:

a) Suck it up and use condoms if you're going to have anal sex outside of a monogamous relationship
b) Do other safer activities that don't need condoms like oral or frottage that very much greatly reduce the transmission of serious STD's like HIV
c) Continue not using condoms when having sex and accept the fact that you are putting yourself at a very great risk for eventually getting the virus (which I'm sure you'll eventually get if you choose this option...)

There's actually a 4th option - bareback with someone reliable, proven trustworthy, and negative, exclusively.

This.

And not this. You can know 100% if that person is exclusive as well. If you find someone you do have this relationship with, make sure you would die for this person. I'm sure that is bankside's relationship situation. Not sure you can find that anytime soon.

I've done PrEP but only because I was stupid and barebacked someone and there was blood. It was nerve-wracking even though the person said they were negative and I had known him for a few months. It is not worth the worry unless you're OKAY with possible catching HIV.

Just a clarification-

You did PrEP, which is antiretrovirals before (Pre)-exposure or PEP, which is after (post)-exposure prophylaxis?

Sorry, my mistake! I did PEP. My opinion still stands though.
I often get confused between the two, especially when the drug Truvada is mentioned.

Thanks. That what I thought but I wanted to make sure- the similarity in the names makes it confusing for everyone. :)

Out of curiosity, how long did they have you on PEP and did you have any of the side effects?
