What do you think?

I'm not sure I want to turn my MacBookPro into an oversized iPad. I like the Mac interface the way it is, or was, and I don't like how it has slid so far away from files and folders already, to a world of "apps" and "shelves."

I just got done downloading it. I've only had my Macbook Pro for a few weeks, so everything about a Mac is new to me, but I'm learning.

The only thing that had me lost at first was the inverted scrolling. I'm told I can change that setting, but I'm gonna see if I like for a while before I go changing anything.

The mail is a lot different too. I like the changes here.

Been using Lion for a while now (developer). Really, apart from the new Launchpad app (which you don't have to use), I don't think it's turned the Mac into a giant iPad. Inverted scrolling is definitely better with a trackpad (though I've yet to get one for my iMac), and I'm actually already used to it with my mouse.

A lot of the good stuff in Lion is stuff you don't necessarily see. Document-based apps that have been updated for Lion save themselves automatically, and keep versions of all documents. Time Machine can now backup small changes to your hard drive locally when you don't have your usual Time Machine drive plugged in. iTunes is 64-bit. Full-screen apps will be great for laptop users (especially MBA 11"/13") since you maximise your screen space.

Don't think of Lion as being a step backwards into iPad land. Think of it more like anything good they've done in iOS they've made meaningful for the desktop.

Go forth and enjoy :P

Installed it earlier today. It was a little lurchy at first, but it worked itself out.

Likes so far:
-Feels snappier for sure
-The in-built apps are much improved
-The visual tweaks are small, but good
-Overall it just looks and feels more up to date since the Aqua influence is finally gone

Dislikes
-Inverted scrolling is weird; I couldn't deal with it so I turned it off
-Many apps have some serious issues. Firefox and Chrome aren't liking to render pages properly and have random issues.
-Launchpad seems pretty useless right now
-Finder is better, but still not great
-Overall, a lot of the iOS influence just feels pasted on instead of integrated completely.

After a day of use, I'd say its worth the $30 for the positive changes it brings.

Oh, and the new Update-over-app-store method is really freaking annoying. I like to do clean-installs instead of upgrades, and you can't do that with Lion.

Struggling with the inverted scrolling, but I'll get the hand of it. Had a few apps go foreign on me, but not resolved with the language settings. Other than that I have had no problems.

Just noticed as I type there is a predictive text type of thing going on, and just love the triple fingered tap over words. It looks up the word in the dictionary and thesaurus.

Has anyone had any problems with Flash? I know that there are a few cam based websites that require an "authorization" of sorts in order to use them that is flash based, and I can't get it to work since upgrading to Lion.

Since you mentioned it I thought I would try it out. It won't work in Safari, Firefox, or Chrome.

Download it from the App store that's on your dock. $29.99.

As for flash, I think you need to download Shockwave. I buddy of mine did that for me when I got the computer a few weeks ago.

I can imagine how awful the inverted/pilot scrolling must be. My touchscreen mobile phone from LG has that too and I still can't get used to it :/

Got it for free since I bought my Mac in June. It's okay...just a whole bunch of trackpad things I need to learn. Disabled inverte scrolling because that is completely pointless. Otherwise..it's pretty okay.

Its natural when you're actually touching the screen because you're interacting with what its showing. (so when you move your finger up, the page goes down, as if you were moving an actual sheet of paper) On a trackpad, its silly.

honestly i dont like it that much, but the computer is running so much quicker..totally worth it, it's not exepnsive

I don't like it much either. And I have the opposite experience, my Mac is so much slower. I watch EyeTV and there is now a split second delay between sound and screen. Also the 3 finger swipe upwards to expose Mission Control will often take it 5-6 seconds as the apps judder through the action.

Other dislikes:

  • Mission control will show 3 apps in a row until System Preferences is opened to then spread them across the screen.
  • Checking spelling before sending an email requires clicking on send twice. Once before spell check and then again after, there is no auto send once spell check is ignored as Snow Leopard did(even Apple Help Desk can't assist on this one, don't know if you guys can?).

So overall, not impressed. I'd happily swap back to Snow Leopard but I'm going to stick with it for now.

Was going to have the boyfriend upgrade but then I went to a Mac Store and was disappointed in it, probably not worth the money for me.
