i dont have one but i want one. but they say that its really good and that its faster than the iphone and the keyboard is really cool

I don't have an iPad, but I can answer some of these questions.

No Flash, no multitasking, and no phone.

It does have 802.11 wireless, however. So, if you've got a fast enough internet connection, you can make phone calls via VoIP. ("Truphone" is an iPad app which lets you do VoIP on the iPad).
 
Video Streaming: an App called AirVideo streams video in almost any format from your PC or Mac to the iPad, re-encoding it in real time. BBC, Hulu and Netflixx have iPad apps available now or coming - no doubt plenty of others soon too. Obviously, video streaming is VERY dependent on how fast your network or 3G connection is.

Flash: not supported

Multitasking: Not currently supported, but it's rumoured that version 4 of the iPhone/iPad OS will allow it. Apple is previewing the new OS next week.

Plenty of VoIP applications like Skype already available for voice calls. But the iPad can't make conventional calls over the mobile phone network - it isn't a phone.

I played around with one at the Apple store and I was severely disappointed with it. I don't get why so many "qualified" reviewers are calling it a 'laptop killer'. If I can't attach an external HD, USB or even SD, it already lost the title of 'laptop' nevermind killing one. It really is just an oversized ipod touch/iphone. The keyboard just makes me cringe. It just feels so awkward typing. At least with my ipod touch it feels like my cellphone but this does not even come close to an actual keyboard. It is like using a web keyboard and if you have ever used one before, you know what I am talking about and how bad it is.

While I have heard some complaints about the back-lighting, as long as you are in a well-lit area with no direct sunlight, there are no problems.

If you got $400+ to blow then by all means pick one up but you will probably be much happier with a netbook.
 
My problem with the iPad is that it's as big as a laptop, costs as much as a laptop, but is nowhere near as functional as a laptop.

Seriously, either get a laptop or get an iPhone or an iPod Touch. This in-between device doesn't work because it's not quite a portable as an iPhone, but not quite as versatile as a laptop. What you end up is a device that you leave at home but don't do anything with it (because you have a real computer), or you're carrying it around in your manly purse.
 
I received one for my birthday and didn't know what it was until I saw it on CNN. !oops!

I have no idea what I'm supposed to do w/ the thing. Ummm...maybe I just don't appreciate it b/c I'm not an uber techie, but uh, I just don't see the point in owning one. It's huge!!

I'd sell it, but I'd feel too guilty.

Of course though, I enjoy using my Itouch, mini laptop, Kindle, BB, and pocket pc and often rely on them for work. I find those items productive and efficient, while others think they're absolutely useless. Different strokes for different folks.

Maybe I should read the iPad thread in Hot Topics. It might make me a more enthusiastic owner.
 
I won one by responding to a survey at school. Honestly, I don't think that I would drop the cash for one. With no flash capability, the internet browsing experience is the same as on the iphone, except bigger.

It is nice, though, that the announcement of OS 4.0 indicates that multitasking will be supported on the Ipad, though not until Fall.

I have to admit, I do like it for taking notes though. The keyboard is easy enough to use, especially since I am already used to typing on my microscopic sized mac bluetooth keyboard. Even some professors who don't allow laptop use in class to take notes have accepted the ipad since there is no obstruction between the professor and the student.

There are some cool apps for it that certainly work better on the Ipad than on the Iphone. Marvel comics, for instance is pretty cool if you are into that. The pages app has been useful in a couple of situations where I needed to make quick last minute changes to documents. All in all though, I wouldn't write a brief on it.

The ibooks app is totally cool too. I just wish it had more publisher support. I would love to purchase all of my case books in ebook format and only have to carry the Ipad with me.

All things considered, it really is just a high powered, oversized Ipod Touch, but, in its defense, it is a really BIG Ipod touch.

As a hobby artist who works in digital media, I would have also liked to see some sort of stylus that could be used with the Ipad, even though most people wouldn't use it. Add to that pressure sensitivity and a mobile version of Photoshop and I'd be pimping this as the closest thing available to a fully portable, self-contained, Cintiq.

*Yes, I do know that Apple supporting any product made by Adobe is a pipe dream, so for now I'll have to settle for finger painting in Sketchbook.

oh haha. No multitasking, sorry. They allow certain "background services", but no real multitasking ;)
 
I've convinced my grandad to purchase one of these when they are realised late this april. Now the thing is guys if i had the choice between a Ipad and a laptop, i'd take the laptop any day because you can do soooooo much more and its more suitable for what i need a computer for.

HOWEVER!! my grandad is completly computer illiterate, he hasn't got a bloodly clue what to do but he had a go on my iphone the other day and he wouldn't give it back to me, he was on it for a good hour checking his stocks, searching the internet. It was like a geek using the internet for the first time.

My grandad only wants something to view the internet on in his chair, a laptop wouldn't be too great being that he holds my laptop top in the air when he looks at the screen lol. He wanted to get a computer of somesort so he can sit in his chair and spend a few hours a day reading the news, looking for cars and looking at new holidays. He needs no multi tasking and will probably not download apps without my help.

So i thought the Ipad would be great for him. I showed hima video with my grandma and they agreed to get one for him. He would get a iphone if the screen wasn't so small!

Finally someone responding who actually has one!

I'm surprised you can use it to take notes though; I would have thought the keypad too awkward to be able to type fast. You must be a much better typist than me!

I would like to be able to use a stylus of some kind to write notes with in meetings though. Do you have a voice memo app that you could use for recording in class?

What about the other apps? How are they to use?
 
@3nipples, apps will be the same as the iphones ones, there will be some new ones designed for the ipad, but generally they have just adapted the iphone ones to fit the ipad by making the iphone apps larger lol.

There have been a lot of complaints regarding the up-scaling of non-iPad apps, the double pixel image looks horrendous. They advise either using in standard view or download the iPad specific version if available.
 
I have not, though I plan to buy the Wi Fi + 3G version the days it comes out.

I'm primarily interested in it for work (easy way to keep my massive number of spreadsheets and docs with me at all times, as well as keep notes from meetings in tidy documents), travel (looking forward to travel with this rather than my laptop!) and some home use.
