I am considering taking fish oil and was just curious if anyone here takes it. I have also heard good things about krill oil. Not sure if this is better or how the benefits differ from fish oil (if someone takes krill, let me know) I went to Wal-Mart and Target and saw so many choices of fish oil, I was curious which is best? Should I even consider buying fish oil from a place like that or should I buy online or in a health food store or pharmacy? Thanks guys!

Hey Romantico,

I lived in Iceland for a while and there is a staple of their daily routine. Although I am not a guru on the benefits of it, I did take it for a period of 2 years and felt that it improved my skin tremendously and it also gave a sense of well being. I was hardcore so I took the liquid they called it "thorskalicy" not sure of the spelling as my Icelandic is rustic.

Hey thanks! Yeah, I've heard of many health benefits from it and I thought I'd take a deeper look into fish oil. I eat fish at least twice a week.LOVE IT! So, maybe me taking the capsules is a waste. I tend to worry about mercury in fish these days. I'll look into the liquid form of fish oil you mentioned. Thanks again!

Stick your bottle of fish oil capsules in the freezer, then when you take them (while they're still frozen) you wont burp dirty pussy smell on people..|

i take 2g in the morning and 2g at bedtime. It really helped clear up the issues i was having with my knee and shoulder. I usually buy whatever brand is onsale at CVS the week that i run out of them.

Whoa, I guess I should have started taking this long ago. I was not aware of the healthy skin benefits, all the better. My concern was where I buy it. I see places like Walgreens or Target or CVS selling them, but also hear that they are not as good. I've never been one to pay $30 or $40 for a bottle of vitamins that will last me 30 days (unless I see some major results)

look at the contents on the back.

you'll find they are all pretty much the same, the differance between walmart and a high priced health food shop is just that.....price.

in health food shops you pay for the pretty packaging and the "healthy" feeling you get shopping in the store.

get them cheap if you can find them (i take vitamin E everyday and 30 capsules cost me £1)

whats inside the capsules is the same thing. since you already eat a lot of fish you probably wont get a lot more out of the capsule but it cant hurt right?

I take cod liver oil in gel caps so i don't have to taste it. Then I just end up burping it and it tastes descusting

i took fish oil for some time, since they say it helps against dry eyes. it didn't really help much .. but that AWFUL taste after burbing .. so i stopped ;)

I take prescription fish oil pills. It has helped lower my cholesterol levels.

I take them after I have eaten and get no bad taste from them.

I think you just need to try different brands and you can find one that has no after taste.

I take Omega3 Fish Oil. They seem to be beneficial also they
are large gel pills. I take the one a day, if you eat first usually
no after taste.

I LOVE sprats and sardines (my GF wishes I wouldn't kiss her after I have eaten sardines though) I forgot about them counting as fish. (duh!) Yes, I eat about 2 or 3 servings of fish a week as well. Escolar and Chilean sea bass are what I have eaten lately, but it depends on the season. Snapper and salmon are also favorites. Of course, I can literally live off of oysters and clams. Again, I am concerned with the amount of mercury in a lot of these fish and seafood's that I eat.

I take omega fish oil tablets. My doctor said it could lower cholesteral. He advised taking the following: 4 (or more) tabs of fish oil...1000 mg, 5 folic acid....400mcg, Vitamin C....1000mg, and niacin...500mg.

I take this every morning. It has lowered my cholesterol a little, but overall it makes me feels great. I rarely am sick anymore. I feel the differece when I do not take these.

I know it's a lot of pills, but a few swallows and they are all down. LOL

Try it. I think it's great.

I buy them from Sam's (Walmart). They are cheap.

Um, I used to take cod liver oil pills for a short time several months ago. I stopped when I finally linked my tendency to burp up a fishy flavour and Cherrios at 9am in the morning to the pills. Twas disgusting lol.

When I was a kid, I would take cod liver oil that was flavored with orange, so it just tasted sweet, tangy, and orangy going down. Yummy.

But I haven't taken it in years.

If you take your fishoil immediately before eating it should help prevent some of that nasty burp taste. Also you can get the enteric coated ones which really made the fish burps non-existent for me.

Walgreens has the buy one get one (I can't let a CVS plug go unchallenged lotus ;) :P )on one brand at least once a week. The Natures Bounty line of the enteric coated runs (if I'm not mistaken) $9.99 for the 160 count. Whish when you double that aint too bad a deal.

But I bought a clearenced line of fish oil that were 180's that were marked down to $3.15, or $2.67 with my discount, and were Buy one get one free the next week!

2 bottles down, 6 to go! :rotflmao:
I also found that freezing them made them less burp-ish since they are not enteric.

EDIT:

As for bennefits since taking them.

That pesky CLICK I would get in my left knee after long bike rides exists no more.
I have noticed a big difference in my complexion and I react much less to getting pimples or what not.
And those last 5 LDL points my doctor wanted gone are gone (and more).

The one's I've been taking at 1,000mg/capsule. and I take two in the morning, one at lunch, and one with dinner. My shakes I make I make with a heaping tablespoon of flax as well.

Oh you're just jealous because we own caremark! and pharmacare!...AND SOON THE WORLD!!!!

And i am such a failure at knowing what is on sale when, mostly because its more fun to day dreaming that hateful little troll customer is getting hit by a speeding bus.

BUT anyway... My skin is less dry and i take my fish oil. Which is good. And for those of us that don't get to a lunch....im a little jealous....you have time to eat at work? I'm lucky if i have time to suck down a can of glucerna. And i make my protein muffins and muscle pancakes with flax seed too! i tried cooking with flax seed oil...that didnt go very well...It has this dreadful taste...kind of like....moldy hay mixed with cum.

i am a vegetarian and have never eaten animals, and my naturopath told me Flax Seed Oil is better for you than fish oil, so i take that.

is this the right fish oil ? it says:

Odourless Fish oil
fish oil - natural 1000mg
EPA 180mg
DHA 120mg

400 capsuels

^ sounds about right, none of it is harmful, so try it and see if it helps for a month, if not then switch to a differant concetration

First, why do you want to take fish oil supplements? It can have positive effects in many areas like weight managment, better looking skin, joints, etc. It has even been shown to benefit those with ADD when containing the right amounts of EPA and DHA.

However, I am of one who believes the fast majority of supplements are a waste of money. I firmly believe one should get their nutrients from food? Why? Take Vitamin C for an example. Good nutrient but an entire orange has about 20 or so other important nutrients at the micro level that a bottle of Vitamin C will never have. This can be seen across the board for whatever supplement unless you take some type of herb.

The only thing I take currently is grounded flax seed by Bob's Red Mill. Technically it is a food with many benefits including Omega 3s.

If you are seeking to treat an issue, try a fish oil if you want and make sure you get a mercury free bottle. Otherwise, stick to salmon, albacore tuna, etc. 2-4 times a week.
