Apple let me down...

I can't see it competing that well with Microsoft's entry with it's paltry update.

lol, it's Microsoft that has to compete not Apple. The ipod has blown away almost all of its competitors in all categories consistently for years.

ipod is still by far the king. I'm all for competition, but it's others that have to provide compelling alternatives if they want to displace Apple.

The first Zune was rather lackluster and basically a failure. Let's hope the HD has some better stuff.

you're not the only one. I, for one, sold my 1st gen ipodtouch on ebay because of those convincingly real photo of 3rd gen cover that has camera hole in it. And only to be let down by minor updates. In fact, I wasn't even looking forward to have a camera incorporated. What I wanted was a freaking MIC to do skype call on my itouch. I was so mad that planning to get Zunehd instead but found out it's not gonna release in where I live. But fortunately, I managed to get itouch 2nd gen 8gb with very good deal like $140, new by the way, from local shop.

K so I watched the keynote.

It was okay. I liked that they showed us new games coming to the iPhone though and the Halo Clone, "NOVA"

But since all the new iPod Nano does is have camera, voice, and etc. that's not really that big. The look did not change at all too. It is cool that iPod Touch gets the Open GLES though. I was amazed that apple has more titles than Sony and Nintendo for their portable handhelds though.

I kinda enjoyed how they got slammed as well. No one likes to go to gamestop and deal with the dumbass clerks trying to find a game. Than again I don't think anyone wants to download a 3 GB game from Xbox Demand and have it being cheaper somewhere else or used.

iTunes 9 looks incredible though. Once I found out it's jailbreak safe I'll download it. The new iTunes LP's are cool too. Actually gives a reason to download instead of buying the CD's. Especially the interviews with the artists and making of.

They haven't caught up to the DVD extras but they are trying with the "extras" for some movies. That is really cool and that's a step forward to replacing "physical discs" which we all know they are trying to do.

In terms of software and apps apple has been succesful. But like some pointed out they did not really deliver, "The next iPod." Steve did say they are working on some things though and have plans. No doubt that the Tablet is in the works.

I have a feeling that the next truly new or revolutionary iPod, iPod Touch, or iPhone will be next year.

I was a bit dissapointed they did not talk about the apple tv subscription thing. There was rumor that because of lack of sales in their tv shows and movies that apple might possibly do a subscription to content and deliver it to apple tv.

I just have a feeling there is a lot to look forward to next year or the year after that. I'll wait on upgrading my iPhone. Even though the new one is a speedy bastard.

If all you're wanting is a PMP with a camera you can wait til Creative's Zii Egg comes out... If it ever comes out that is.

Actually, it was rumored that the touch was supposed to include a camera but there were some kind of manufacturing problems and they didn't include it last minute. But they may randomly release it with a camera later on. Here's a link to what I read: http ://gizmodo.com/5356769/ipod-touch-camera-could-happen-without-warning

So I went to a Best Buy the other day to play around with a Zune and I must say, I was a bit disappointed with it. Maybe its because ive grown accustomed to my ipod. Despite my anger, I think I will pick up a touch. still, I feel that they could have at least put in an FM tuner.

Side note: saw the commercial for the new nano and for the "camera" they take HD video and put it on the "screen". Ive seen what the nano camera looks like. my freaking cellphone takes better video than that.

The advantage about the iPod Touch and iPhone is they are not limited to "JUST AN FM Transmitter"

I know one app called "iHeart Radio" That has my favorite radio station on it "Project 961" and "106 Rock"

One of them is local for me. I am sure by now there is a radio app that actually gets radio stations of local stations. Also AOL Radio is really good. I enjoy that.

Just remember. Whatever the iPod Touch doesn't have.

"There's an app for that."

It's been confirmed that the iPod touch was meant to have a camera. Go to MacRumors, and it's one of the stories further down the page. A few weeks ago there was a leaked photo of a supposed iPod touch with a camera, also with photos of the circuitry inside the unit - which was clearly different to the previous models. In a teardown of the new unit, the circuitry matches exactly what was seen in the 'spy' shots, minus the camera. I think it's pretty much a certain that there were indeed production problems in the end, so Apple rush-released a camera-less iPod touch and just threw the iPhone 3GS' processor inside as an incentive.

No, it isn't. The 2G touch could have also housed a camera, but it didn't either. What it came down to was whether Apple wanted to include a shitty VGA camera like the Nano has, or whether they wanted to redesign ALL of the interior components to fit the camera from the iPhone. It is entirely possible (and likely) that a future update will see the Touch gain a camera. However, there is no evidence that the Touch that just launched was supposed to have one.

Please then, explain why 'leaked' photos from several weeks ago, at the link I posted above, have the exact same chipset and internal structure as the brand new iPod touch (sans camera, obviously)? Especially when said chipset looks totally different to the ones inside the 2nd gen touch? I wouldn't say it's just coincidence, not something like that.

For your convenience, direct links to the stories themselves:

Initial leaked photos from August 14 showing new chipset and camera.

3rd gen teardown reveals space for camera.

Chipset comparisons showing likenesses between 'leaked' photos and 3rd gen, differences with 2nd gen.

Notice that the picture of the supposed prototype does NOT have a camera when the back is removed. Like the production unit, it has a piece of plastic or some such thing in its place.
