But why would somebody make up a false persona? I mean, everybody is different. We're all different ages, different body types, different tastes, different likes and dislikes and regardless of who or what we are, there will be someone out there who likes us. So why lie and make up something just to get people to like you? I dunno, maybe that's not the reason they do it. I mean, I can see why an underage person would claim they were 18. But why would someone, say, 50 years old tell people they're only 20? There are plenty of guys out there who like 50 year old men.

In fact there's a guy who goes to the bar I go to every weekend who is like late 40's, early 50's and he's HOT!

Maybe I'm getting off track here because I don't know the exact circumstances behind the original post, but - those are my thoughts.
