*So* cool! ..|

I bet some of the articles in the usenet area are the same ones I found looking for naughty uuencoded pics in 1988. :D

^ back when you'd pray to G-d that people made a contact sheet for the pics.

I wonder if any kids today can even imagine downloading anything at 2400baud.

^ and didn't it suck when the hottest pic on the contact sheet had one part missing? :grrr:

I had a 1200 baud modem as my first, and used it to dial in to the university's Unix boxes and write code. I got to be really good at guessing which line number to jump to...

vi ... when dialing in, anyway. Small, simple, and easy to deal with over slow connections. When I was in the lab, I favored emacs ... the go-anywhere, do-anything editor! ..|

Remember 'talk'? Or Internet Relay Chat? :D

I remember when IRC came out. I don't remember using anything before hand. Though, I didn't get into it until the very late 80's/early 90's.

I found an old binder from the late 80's. It's a list of newsgroups (not the naughty ones lol.) I remember having to sneak into the lab to use the laser printer that was off-limits to students. I remember having to split-up the 80 pages over a couple weeks.

hee hee ... I found the naughty newsgroups by digging around in the configuration files for the netnews system. The University didn't formally carry those newsgroups, so I had to dig around in the "junk" area of the news spooler to get the articles.

Who says looking for naked men isn't an educational experience? :D
