I'm sure those policemen will live with that for the rest of their lives. As far as they were concerned, they were just settling a 'domestic' case - Jeffrey Dhamer is the sick, evil twisted one here - not the Milwake cops.

you have any nutty cop stories ?what a great show it would make.call it "krummy kops"

heres one

One of Dahmer's victims escaped, only to be returned to him by police. When it was later publicized, there was widespread condemnation of the officers. In the early morning hours of May 27, 1991, 14-year old Milwaukee Laotian Konerak Sinthasomphone was discovered on the street, wandering nude. Reports of the boy's injuries varied. Dahmer told police that they had had an argument while drinking, and that Sinthasomphone was his 19 year-old lover. Against the teenager's protests, police turned him over to Dahmer. Later that night Dahmer killed and dismembered Sinthasomphone, keeping his skull as a souvenir. Sinthasomphone was the younger brother of the boy Dahmer had been convicted of molesting.
John Balcerzak and Joseph Gabrish, the two police officers who returned Sinthasomphone to Dahmer, were terminated from the Milwaukee Police Department after their actions were widely publicized, including an audiotape of the officers making anti-gay statements to their dispatcher and laughing about having reunited the "lovers." The two officers appealed their termination and were reinstated with back pay. They were named officers of the year by the police union for fighting to regain their jobs. Balcerzak would go on to be elected president of the Milwaukee Police Association in May 2005.
By the summer of 1991, Dahmer was murdering approximately one person each week. Matt Turner was killed on June 30, Jeremiah Weinberger on July 5, Oliver Lacy on July 12, and finally Joseph Brandehoft on July 19, just three days

wow milkwakee what a sick town
FIRST of all - It's MILWAUKEE not MILKWAUKEE. SECOND - I live here and it is not a sick town. THIRD- this was a tragedy that shocked this entire city. FOURTH -This person had the power of pursuasion that was very believable, if you would have bothered to copy & paste the ENTIRE thing, his whole sordid life is there. and last but not least FIFTH- John Balcerzak and Joe Gabrishes reactions are not uncommon among ANY police, fire or any groups of people when discussing gay domestic violence. John is a fine officer and was a good guy also when I knew him in high school.

Against the teenager's protests, police turned him over to Dahmer.

did you read it all?

what a response

ALSO this was before MOST police departments began domestic violence arrests as a rule. The kid was drugged so appeared drunk.

I don't see a horrible tragedy as a "nutty cop story."

Just me.

Another source I read years ago said that at the time, the Milwaukee police department was striving to be more tolerant of the gay community; evidently there had been complaints in the past. Rather than harrass or arrest either Dahmer or the boy (or both), they thought it best to reunite them and let them work out whatever quarrel they were having. I'm not trying to justify the officer's actions, but I'm sure they just felt they were doing the right thing at the time.

You are totally right in this post. harrassment of the gay community was awful, and the MPD (Milwaukee Police dept.) was trying to teach the officers to be more tolerant I believe to make some lawsuits disappear.

I don't care what city you go to, there is going to be laughing and joking in these kinds of situations by any people observing etc., as it is a natural reflex, It happens with any types of high stress jobs and not only against gay people.

Thanks for your post.

hes wandering nude and hes proootesting--i guess protests dont mean anything to some --hes 14 -being nude is illegal

i think those cops are stupid !!!

You're entitled to your opinion about another persons stupidity. Most Police departments have come a long way since then, and as another poster wrote, this isn't something nutty, it reopens a tragic wound.

You really shouldn't call a tragedy a "nutty story" it's sickning and insulting. But man I don't see how they could let those men keep their jobs and elected one of them as head of the police union. I'd be scared to live in that city.
