Batman star Christian Bale has declared he will quit the comic book movie franchise if producers ever decide to reintroduce the caped crusader's sidekick Robin.

Bale took on the role of the legendary action hero in 2005's "Batman Begins" and will be seen again in "The Dark Knight", which is due for release later this month.

But the actor is hoping that the character of Robin is not brought back into any of future Batman movies - because he will resign in protest.

He says, "If Robin crops up in one of the new Batman films, I'll be chaining myself up somewhere and refusing to go to work."

Well that is sad. I guess I can understand why, Robin is cheesy, still sad though. Christian Bale is the best Batman ever.

Corrected for efficiency:wink:
Seeing how Robin is a man and not a woman, how exactly is he sexist?

If you want to read into it as everyone else is, I think the word you are looking for is homophobic man. You know, corrected for accuracy.

And he is the best BATMAN ever.

Re-read his post. he said SEXIEST not SEXIST. BIG difference.

Wow... sounds like an ego problem to me. Can't stand sharing the spotlight Bale? Robin is just as much a part of Batman lore as the bat cave, batmobile, Joker, or even Batman himself. You can't deny his role in the Batman cannon because you feel like it.

Re: Bale: "I will quit Batman as soon Robin steps

The Urban Dictionary has an entry for "balehead"--ardent fans of Christian Bale. I may qualify.

Re: Bale: "I will quit Batman as soon Robin steps

Much like Tom Cruise taking the role of a bisexual Vampire and then throwing a hissy fit when he has to touch a guy's shoulders.

Re: Bale: "I will quit Batman as soon Robin steps

Tough room. I don't think Bale is being egotistical or homophobic. I suspect he, like many, has bad memories of Batman Forever which was nearly the death of the franchise and the polar opposite of the dark and gritty tone set by Batman Begins.

Re: Bale: "I will quit Batman as soon Robin steps

This is the best news I've heard today. I can't stand Robin. He's cheesy, whiney, wears green underwear, and is named after a bird.

This series is better off with just Batman as its hero.

Re: Bale: "I will quit Batman as soon Robin steps

^^Can you name any A-List actors who don't?

(And, if anyone says Tom Hanks, you're wrong.)

Re: Bale: "I will quit Batman as soon Robin steps

i have no issue with robin, but i'd rather he not be in the films.

Re: Bale: "I will quit Batman as soon Robin steps

I don't think it's an ego problem. Robin just wouldn't really fit in the franchise and Bale's conveying that he will continue to play Batman as long as the Batman universe adheres to what Nolan created. At least in my mind =\

I don't blame him, and since it's speculated that Nolan was only gonna do three Batman movies, the idea of Bale doing more than three (so long as Robin isn't brought in) puts a smile on my face.

Re: Bale: "I will quit Batman as soon Robin steps

I think the current splendor of Batman will be over when Part 3 hits theaters. As soon as Nolan leaves the ship, Bale and most of the cast will follow him and of course, Warner Bros. will try to reinvent the franchise for the ninth time for better or worse.

I can't imagine Christopher Nolan delivering a Batman movie every two years because he's hardly the typical "studio guy". He will move forward looking for new challenges with his pockets loaded courtesy of The Dark Knight.

Re: Bale: "I will quit Batman as soon Robin steps

That's a little disappointing because, actually, I'd like to see how the creative team behind this new Batman series would handle the Robin character. In the previous movies, he was a joke, but the new series isn't as childish and cartoonish as the movies from the '90s. They could actually make him a decent character.

Re: Bale: "I will quit Batman as soon Robin steps

Can't say I really blame him.

I know next to nothing about Batman other than his general background & major villains, but Robin doesn't seem like he would fit with the seriousness of the newer Batman series

...Maybe Nightwing would be a better choice, if they ever decide to add on. Isn't he like a more mature/darker Robin or something?

Re: Bale: "I will quit Batman as soon Robin steps

^ actually nightwing is dick grayson who was the first robin.

in the current continuity tim drake is the current robin.

Re: Bale: "I will quit Batman as soon Robin steps

This really does not upset me. I honestly think that the movies are better without Robin. "Batman Forever" was a pretty decent film, but "Batman & Robin" was utterly horrendous. I like the more dark approach that Nolan is taking with the new franchise, and I honestly don't think Robin fits in with that tone too well. Oh, and Christian Bale is the best AND sexiest Batman ever!

Re: Bale: "I will quit Batman as soon Robin steps

I can't believe people seriously think they can blame the massive differences on Robin and not directorial style and basic demeanor. Like Batman Returns was a gem? Please! This is scapegoating. Robin is a core character in the Batman world and to simply omit him because you didn't feel like dealing with him would be disrespectful to the creators of the comics and the characters.
