So I decided to take a bath today for the first time in a long time. I got in and to no surprise it was scalding hot just the way I like it. I take showers with hot all the up so it was super normal. But about ten minutes in I started to feel real dizzy, my heart was beating out of its chest and I felt really abnormally warm. I jumped out almost passed out and am now just laying flat on the floor with my underwear on trying to calm down. Any ideas? I'm not on any meds or anything and this has never happened before.

Scalding baths- particularly those where you immerse your whole body can raise your body temperature inducing hyperthermia. Your heartrate will increase. You may get a pounding headache and feel like you can't catch your breath. Your blood vessels will dilate. If you stand too quickly, you will pass out.

Fortunately, the effects are quickly reversed by remaining in a cool place in loose fitting clothing.

Next time, check the temperature of the water ahead of time.

Happened to me once too - I VERY nearly passed out while still in the tub. I never make it that anymore.

Hot tubs do that to me. I can only stay in 10 minutes, plus I'm on Seroquel, which means i really shouldn't go in at all, as it makes you overheat much more easily. If I ever do go in a hot tub, I drink a lot of water afterward. A scalding hot bath doesn't sound too fun anyway. And the difference with the shower is probably that the heat can escape your body somewhat more because it's not immersed in water. And the combination of air and water is probably even somewhat cooling even if you use hot water in a shower.

The weird thing is i take scalding hot showers everyday and don't feel a thing. But I erl think twice next time about the water temp.

the shower may be a little different because you aren't submersed in the water. In a shower only a small part of your body is in contact with the it. As you have noticed by now the symptoms usually resolve pretty quick. just be careful in the future about how hot the water is and how long you stay in it.

Steven.

yea I'll be a lot more careful next time for sure. I just was afraid of passing out naked on my floor lol.

The same thing happens to me every time I am in a hottub. I get dizzy and can't catch my breathe. My way of getting over this was to not use a hottub again.
