Is there another way to get a brain scan without my having to remove all of my piercings. Another machine by chance?

I want to ask my doctor about it.

CAT scan. Sometimes, though, people have reactions to the contrast agent used.

But there may be a reason your physician wants a MRI and not a CAT scan.

Why not remove your piercings?

I will if I have too, but they are hard to take out on my own. Piercing shops around here don't really want to take them out because of where some of them are and I have no way to go out of town to have it done.

Sounds kinky lol

Anyhoo, speak with your doctor about options.

Your other options are CT scan or PET scan.

It's going to depend on what they're looking for, though.

My doctor is checking to see if I am having seizures or mini strokes he said. He is also having me do an EMG, NCS and an EEG tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the info

CAT scans involve radiation. Don't do it.
that it does, but it is not a cause for alarm. have you ever taken a plane ride? you get higher radiation there too. Xrays are safe when used properly.

so this is out of my curiosity....do you have any tattoos also? what kind? there are a number of types of tattoos that are not recomended to be in MRI machines due to their metalic components in the inks. make sure if you do have tattoos, that you mention this to the technicians performing the MRI, they may ask you where you got the tattoos. this will help them determine if it is safe or not.

I have one on my chest.

just to further my example, and i am sure you were never in prison, but prisoners do their own tatts using the ink from ball point pens which have higher amounts of metals than tattoo inks. also not sure of your age, but soldiers back in the day also either used similar techniques, or tattoo shops used types of ink that could have higher metalic components than today. but still, they usually ask, you will see it listed in the disclosure and warnings forms you will have to read and sign before the procedure (assuming so).

apparently the higher metalic components are seen in permanent eyeliner if you find that interesting.

just have the tech evaluate your tattoo in the morning, im sure they know exactly what to look for since they will be experts in their specific field.

if you also use any drug patches, like volteren, fentanyl, (many others) those will have to be removed because the plastic films have metalic vapor coated aluminum residues in them that will react.

I should be fine then with the tattoo. I'm only 29 and I got it a little under 2 years ago in a well known shop .

Dear Christ.

It is the MRI that would pull all your piercings out for you if there is any ferrous metal at all in them.

Remove the junk. Get the scan and then reinsert the hardware.

this person needs an MRI, the options of a CT were discussed but the MD ordered and MRI.

Just FYI, concerning the MRI, although magnetic reactions will occur with the ferrous metal (iron), it also reacts with other metals. you cannot have metals of many types near the MRI, they may not be pulled through magenetic forces, however they turn the electromagentic energy of the magnetic waves into heat energy and burn patients, hence this is why I (yes, specifically me), have to educated the staff and the other MDs to carefully inspect the patient for any drug patches, because many are produced with aluminum vapored coatings on the plastics, which will quite quickly reach a few hundred degrees while near the machine.

You can have dental bridges and implants (metal). I had an MRI and they said it was OK.
