Hi guys, well the time has come to ditch my old Dell B110, and I'd like to keep things simple by just getting another tower. I'm hoping I can get something decent for $300 or less, is that just a wet dream? I want something that would be pretty good for watching movies as well as the usual stuff (no gaming).

Oops, well already since writing that, I've figured out that under $300 isn't going to happen. How about under $400?

Does anybody know anything about emachines? As far as I can tell, they're practically out of the desktop business. Very suspicious.

I have had two emachines in the past. They were decent computers and did what I wanted.

Software files kept getting bigger and speeds kept getting faster so I had to upgrade. The last emachine crashed on me when the hard drive locked up. I had had it for about five years when this happened though.

I understand emachine is now owned by Acer.

eMachines is a brand of entry level PCs, based in Irvine, California. eMachines employed about 135 employees and sold between 1 to 2 million computers each year before its purchase on January 30, 2004, by rival Gateway Computers. Gateway was purchased by Acer in October 2007, and eMachines is still used as a name brand for low-cost PCs.

Don't get an Acer worst computers ever i had problems with them in the past.

Emachines are good i had two of them and they work very well. Check best buy as well sometimes they have good deals

for this price you better get something readymade and weak powered .. or a netbook. make it 600$ and i'll show you good components.

I have an emachines desktop and a dell laptop.

I've had no problems with the emachines, but I hate my dell laptop.

But, my emachines was made before Acer bought them. According to the paper work something called: "The First American Computer Company of China" made my desktop.

I love that name. Just so strange in just so many ways.

The computer I'm using is an eMachines I had it since 2007..
It was running slow at one point but when update my ram & GC.. It ran 100X better... Good luck

Lenovo for SURE as suggested by GiancarloC.
I have a similar Lenovo with the i3 cpu and love it.
I love my el cheapo Acer laptop with the i3 cpu too.
You won't get more for your money than you will with Lenovo.
