Lucas' was funny because his character hadn't even been seen for years and the last time he was, he was like 8 years old and then he suddenly came back as a senior in high school and gay.

I couldn't find a FULL clip of Bianca coming out on "All My Children," but that was the best coming out on daytime. Trust me... I know this genre through and through.

However, I did some SOME clips having to do with it...

In the police station where he's bawling his eyes out, because of some gay basher?

Oh yes, barrels of hilarity.

I just thought it was stupid of the show to suddenly age the character and in a matter of 5 minutes, he's a troubled gay teen. None of the viewers knew him, because since he was aged he was virtually a new character. A stranger. And because of that, nobody really CARED about him.

They should've played the story with another more established 'ambiguous' character so that the viewers would've felt a more deep emotional connection to the character involved, thus giving the tale a more emotional and dramatic impact.

I also annoyed me that being gay was the ONLY thing about the character. He wasn't fleshed out or given a real personality. He was just the token 'gay teen.' More or less, a piece of gay cardboard.

Plus, I LOATHE the 'macho' writing on this show, where all the bad guys are worshipped and the good guys are losers. Bob Guza SUCKS! Guza de Luza can suck my balls.

Well considering he was aged appropriately. I think it was well done... I mean I always would ask my mom, "what the hell happened to Bobby's kid?"

She said "oh he get's mentioned."

Plus I've found it to be one of the most watchable Soaps on the air.

(P.s. People like Sonny, and Jason are in effect "Anti-Heroes")

No. People hate Sonny and Jason. Check out a few GH message boards, LoL

I was impressed with Zarf's recent coming out as a trannie lesbian on AMC. Pretty ground-breaking stuff.

I didn't mean the SCENE was funny. I meant it was funny that the character wasn't seen for a long time, receiving only occasional mentions. Plus, as it happens with ALL soap opera children, he was aged quite a bit when he did return. I thought it was funny that the last time we saw him, he was still a young child and when he came back, he was gay and in high school.

For me, there is no contest. It is gay teen Billy Douglas (played by Ryan Phillipe) on One Life to Live from 1992. That was a long time ago but I had it on tape and watched it over and over again. It was very powerful and pretty unique for its time.

I have to agree - that whole storyline was pretty groundbreaking for its time and was interwoven with several others, culminating in several episodes that included all the residents of Llanview attending a memorial that included the AIDS Quilt on the grounds in front of the church.

At the time, it was heart wrenching stuff.

The whole storyline involving Kevin Sheffield coming out to the gay teacher Mike Delaney - and the reaction of Kevin's homophobic brother on All My Children runs a close second.

(Sorry, I'm a soap whore ;) )

I remember the first gay character on a soap was Hank Elliott on "As The World Turns". Poor Iva Snyder kept trying to get handsome Hank interested in her, until Hank finally had to tell her he was gay. When he said the words, I couldn't believe what I was hearing. ATWT did a great job then, and does a great job now with Luke.

The gay teacher one sticks in my mind. It was the whole reason I got into the show...

I have to agree with teepop21 and Davelandia. One Life to live's Billy douglas coming out storyline changed my life forever. It was like watching myself in the mirror. Here was this kid on tv and he was having the same thoughts and feelings i was. I realized by watching this show that I could no longer hide who i was. I had to be truthful and deal with the repercussions. I wish there were more stories on like this one to help teens deal with coming out. But this was an excellent story that was well thought out and beautifully written.

The AMC Zarf stuff is just so bad, it's camp. AMC has really gone downhill.

It should be interesting to see how "Passions" handles Chad's "on the down-low" coming out scene this week.

"General Hospital" is pretty much the best daytime show on the air right now. It's always a cynch to beat "The Young & The Restless" at the daytime Emmys every year and it did win the majority of Best Show Of 06 accolades from the soap press, and I am really moreso happy with it's highs than it's lows as we approach the end of this decade.

But they fumbled bad when it came time for Lucas' coming out storyline. Not only did they re-cast as soon as the story came into fruition, but Lucas' almost-boyfriend has been seen anywhere.

Why couldn't he be the computer whiz instead of Spinelli who is hogging ALL THE AIR TIME!!! :(

Van Hansis from "As The World Turns" is a shoe in to win Outstanding Younger Actor at the Daytime Emmys this spring. Totally terrific kid.
