Hey!!

I want to know what razor brands you guys use to shave. This morning I felt like I was butchering my face  with these cheapo no-brand disposable razors I bought in an effort to save money. Before these, I was using the Gillette Fusion which I thought was pretty decent, but since the refill cartridges were pretty pricey (and of course I needed to buy something on the eve of payday #-o ) I went for these 5-pack Personna disposables  ....

I know our skins are different and what works for one will not for the other. Just wanted to get an idea and see if there is something reasonable I have not discovered yet. What I DO know is I HATE HATE HATE single blades! UGH!

I've tried those cheapos before and you are right, they tear up my face too! I use the Fusion also, but switch on and off between that and my Norelco electric.

I hate my electric, all the ones I have ever tried burned so I don't use them anymore. I have been pretty happy with the Mach III.

Long ago, I used manual razors but I got lazy so I switched to a norelco.
It does the job well - quickly and without a mess.
However, I have now become too lazy for that.

I used to shave with the Mach III, which did a great job, but then I lost it on a trip to New Orleans (a minor alcohol-related tragedy). Now I use the Fusion razor and it does a great job. 5 blades is rediculous, but it works well. I have found that if you rinse the razor in cold water that there is less irritation on my face and other "sensitive" areas.

I've been using Mach III since they came out and am satisfied with them. I've never tried electric but I can be so fussy when I shave that if it didn't give me a close enough shave, I'd probably not use it.

Shaving is just part of my daily ritual.

I've had a LOT of THOSE:D :D :D

I still use the Mach III ; however, I find the blades more difficult to come by.

I'll probably be making the same move soon......

Hopefully under different circumstances......

I use Gilette Fusion, too. I used to use Mach 3, but I like this one better. I can't use disposable ones (mainly because I wait way too long in between shaves), and I find electric shavers don't give me a close enough shave, so I shell out the cash for Fusion!

I'll take the cheap-o disposable razors any day over the most expensive ones. All of those blades that purport to contour to fit your face just don't work as well for me as the cheap ones.

(!) (!) (!)

electric doesn't cut close enough and it severely irritates my skin.

im using schick quatro right now. haven't tried the fusion yet. but, i like supporting the underdog. go schick!

I can't stand using the disposable ones. I definitely pay extra for the replacement razors. I usually buy them in bulk @ Sam's, a lot cheaper...anyway...I used a mach 3, now I have the fusion and love it. The power ones don't seem to make a difference now that I've tried both...just makes your hand tingly lol...

Even if using the razor causes irritation, using a good aftershave takes care of the razorburn (and I'm not talking about the kind with alcohol, those just burn). I use one made by Nivea. Plus it keeps your face
moisturized along with all that other good stuff it says it does...

I switch between the fusion and machIII. The blades last practically forever, so price isn't really a factor although I suspect in the end they cost less than the disposables that tear up my face.

I use a Mach III and don't really like it much. The blades only last me about 3 - 4 days and are really expensive. I've asked for a safety razor for Christmas. I like the ritual of shaving in the morning.

I use fusion and I have an electric. The electric gets pretty close, but it uses a grid, so it doesn't shave close so much as you need to press closeand it'll get the hairs, no burn.

But the razors are quicker (IMO), but if it's dull or cheap, the burn sucks.

fusion. all the way.
my facial hair is pretty sparse compared to most guys, but where it does grow, i need a close shave. my skin is also pretty sensitive, so i find the 5 blade thing pretty effective (although, at first, i just thought the 5-blade thing was a marketing ploy). i used the mach 3 a while back, and i noticed that the fusion doesn't irritate my skin as much as the mach 3 did. and i think the shave is much closer with the fusion. my face feels like a baby's ass.

the price thing is definitely the biggest drawback, but - like one of the other guys said - the blades last a while.

also - and this is probably a big no-no - but i use electric from time to time (just because my facial hair isn't too bad), so i don't go through as many blades as if i exclusively used a razor. so that works out well.

i personally love shaving with a razor, though. i'm pretty smooth generally, and sometimes i wish i had more hair on my face and body just so that i could shave it off. just the sound of a razor slicing through hair - oh man.

sometimes i'll see a guy with alot of facial hair or alot of stubble, and all i want to do is shave him. and then maybe shave other hairy parts of his body...

it's very weird, i know.

My skin isn't very sensitive so I use the cheap brands. I only use the blades once and throw them away. I also shave in the shower so the extra humidity makes it easier.

THANKS guys for all the great feedback!

Based on your responses I pretty much convinced myself to go back and invest in Fusion cartridges again. The shave was really much better compared to these crappy disposables. Like cowboy87 said buying in bulk at Sam's is a good bet, which is where I got my Fusion in the first place. And --O2--, I share your hate of shaving in the first place too! Luckily it's an every-3rd-day task for me!

Addendum: how long I can use a set of blades depends a lot on the lubricant I use. With Gilette gel I get about 20 shaves before it starts irritating, but with foam or other types of gel noticably less.

I'm a big fan of the straight razor. It takes a little longer to shave and there's some prep work, but I have never had a closer shave.

But in a hurry & have a Mach3 on standby.

I use a Mach III. I really hate shaving, I would love to have lazer hair removal.

I've tried various shaving gels, foams, creams, etc. By far the best one I've ever used is King of Shaves which I get at Walgreens. The razor glides so much better using that than any other shaving lubricant.
