I know exactly what you're going through. I'm six foot four, and a hundred and eighty some odd pounds. I lift weights every second day because I want to bulk up. I want big arms, big shoulders, a big chest because I'm done with being so lanky. But I look good in black...

To gain muscle mass, you're going to need to start lifting. Start slow, don't push yourself. It doesn't happen overnight. Trust me, I've been lifting for like four months now and I've probably put on five pounds of muscle. You just need to inhale protein. If you want a snack, fry an egg, scarf some leftover steak, eat peanut butter on a cracker. The more protein the better. This, coupled with heavy weight lifting, will bulk you up. And by heavy weight lifting I mean few repetitions (8-12) with heavy weights. And make sure you go to exhaustion. As in, don't stop at twelve if your muscle can keep going, stop when your muscle can physically not push the weight any more.

You can also buy protein bars at the store. They'll provide you with 500 hundred easy calories and around thirty five grams of protein, which is massive, seeing as an egg is considered "protein packed" and a jumbo egg has 7 grams of protein.

DAMN!!! According to those charts I need to gain 39 pounds! Based on my height (5'3"), my physician wants me to be 120 -still have almost 20 pounds to go.

My suggestion, which has helped me put on almost 15 pounds since moving to Liberal, is to eat your 3 regular meals, then supplement with at least three mini-meals during the day.

Figure out your how many calories (on average) your body needs to maintain weight. Google this to find out how.

Then add 300-500 calories to this and you should gain weight. You don't want to eat more than this range because you risk of getting fat.

General rule of thumb is 1.5g of protein per 1lb of bodyweight.

I know I have to be realistic, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to be toned. Ugh, I'm just so done with lankiness.

Of course you'll turn into an asshole, your dick will shrink, and you'll look like an idiot as you hulk out like a 'roid monster, but you'll bulk up. Oh yeah and they're illegal so you can only hope your cellmate is impressed with your new physique ;)

Weights is the only way to do what you're talking about, in combination with a proper diet. Yes you could easily gain 70lbs with a high-carb/fat/protein diet, but it won't be where you want to gain it I guarantee and probably would lead you to a heart attack waaaaay faster than weight-lifting will.

Especially the high fat part...just because you're keeping it in balance with the carbs and the protein doesn't mean it's not getting lodged in your arteries. And without balancing your new weight with an exercise program your heart will strain harder to cary the extra load without the plus of a healthy diet and exercise that would improve its ability to do so.

Also, once that weight's on, it's a bitch to get off ;)
 
Just eat more than you usually eat and stay active and exercise (lift, really).

You know how you eat 3-4 times a day you eat till you're full. Well at each time you eat and become full, continue to eat more than that.
 
im tall too. i just recently hit 190 but i dont see it all that much. Most tall guys have a faster metabolism - more area to cover. So its really best to eat around 5 or six meals a day. Its a bitch trust me. Plan your meals by the week. Eat lean meats, chickens, fish, and get plenty of carb too. And dark green veggies are fantastic for muscle repair. Broccoli spinach and i really dig like a "souther green" kale, mustard greens, turnip greens...etc check our market. Protein shakes are a god send. but check ingredients. some have ALOT of sugar (it equals flavor ultimately its bad).
