Scientists have also recently developed a process that removes the nucleus of an unfertilized egg and replaces it with a male X-chromosome sperm cell nucleus that then functions as a normal egg that can be fertilized by another male X-chromosome sperm or Y-chromosome sperm. You still need a surrogate mother to carry the fertilized egg through to birth though. Anyway, in the future, same sex male / male biological parents!

Ok did scientist really develop something like this or is trying to?

Because Mr. OutofEden here presented it as a fact in the another thread.

!oops! Probably not true but...

For some reason, I suspect this has been done in certain animals, but not in humans. I don't have an citations for that though.

One wonders how the courts will determine what constitutes an egg. The egg would still have the female cell wall surrounding it but the nucleus with the genetic material would have been replaced. The cell wall is necessary to protect the nucleus. The nucleus is necessary for cell division. It seems to come down to "which came first, the chicken or the egg".

I doubt this is true or i am sure it would have been on the news or something, but hopefully this is possible in the future.

I haven't heard anything about. In theory, it is totally possible and I would guess that one day they'd be able to do it. Then it will be this whole ethical debate. We shall see.... I don't know about it currently though.

I doubt this is true or even possible. Gay parents can just have one biological child each and that's fine too. I'm sure they are loved by the non-bio parents just as much.

Actually, it's very possible. And in theory not that hard to do. It is well explained how in the original post. And my opinion is that the DNA is what determines the parents.... not the cell wall or stuff like that.

your opinion is correct 99.99999%

in any animal cell, there are 2 sets of DNA, the organism's DNA that most of us know of, and the mitochondrial DNA, which is used by the mitochondria to divide/replicate after a cell division has occured. (in the case of plants, 3 sets of DNA occure because of chloroplast DNA)

this mitochondrial DNA is also traceable, similar to our own DNA...but the process is a little more expensive and harder to work through the protocal.

anyways, 2 instances of what im about to explain have recently occured in the US. mothers and children were drawn in for a common medical test and it was found that the mother's DNA did not match the childrens. Social services were quick to "jump the gun" and take the kids away. a mitochondrial DNA test was then performed, and the kids were found to match the mother. why did this happen you ask? each mother was actually her own twin (yes i typed that right) i searched for the stories and found one here: http://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/story?id=2315693&page=1

oh, and in theory, the x chromosome replacement sounds like it should work. the only hurdle is if it is legal, and ethical.

Yeah, it is true, I saw it in CBS on LOGO. They said they would be able to do this in 5 years time. Although I'm not sure on how I feel about this.

They performed this succesfully with two female mice like, 4 years ago after several failed trials.

I think the science has a lot of kinks to work out before it could ever be approved for human purposes, but it would be wonderful to have kids that were constituted of you and your partner's DNA. And maybe adopt some adorable kids, too :)

i always dream about getting married to a guy and having biological children TOGETHER, but i never thought it may actually be possible. I dont get all the science stuff written above (i'm a numbers person:-) ), but i'll take your word for it!

I would love to do that with my bf!!! But I feel like our kid would look crazy!!!

not quite, im sure the baby would be beautiful. if it is a girl, just think about what both of your mothers look like. you can look to their features to get an idea of the look of a possible daughter.... just cause both of you are donating genetic material doesnt mean the baby would be overyly male looking (like some cave man) or a manly looking female.

Wow, come to think about it,it should be fun to finally get married to your bf and have kids. But then again For long term, I'm afraid what will happen to my son/daughter then? I mean no one has ever had male parents before. How's his/her normal life would be?Hmmm... I guess there's advantage and disadantage too. But, undenialably, its definately fun to have a kid from your bf and your cum.

How's his/her normal life would be?

Nobody has a normal life. Everybody has something "abnormal" about them or their family. So I don't think that would be a problem.
