To Blizzard:

I am a loyal blizzard fan and have been for over a decade. But recently I tried to rejoin Blizzard and play world of warcraft. Immediately my worst fears came true, when Blizzard locked my battle.net account because I do not remember what name I provided when I registered the account.

I then provided Blizzard proof of ownership and password, but Blizzard is still demanding sensitive personal information to regain access.

There has to be a line drawn when a company has the nerve to demand an image of your identification in order to claim something you have paid for.

But this latest incident is just another example of how blizzards account management process has alienated many of its most loyal fans.

With half of the purchases of Blizzards recent Starcraft 2 being rated 3/5 stars or less, and many more giving the game the worst possible rating, it only reinforces the fact that blizzard has indeed bungled the launch of battle.net accounts with constant verification.

I think Blizzard has damaged its reputation, punishing loyal fans to counter illicit activities.

Blizzard, you had the opportunity to apologize to your fans and make things right. I have delayed indefinately the purchased of Starcraft 2 and will be returning my recently purchased WoW timecard.

It may be time to move on to better, more trustworthy businesses. The only way to make them change is to hurt them where it counts.

Sincerely, a former blizzard fan.

Some people care to much about online games.

i dont care THAT much i just dont think a company should have the right. but it is their servers, they do have the right, and its one they shouldn't be forcing on everyone. call me arrogant but i dont like my privacy invaded if i can help it.

Members on the Blizzard forums came up with alternative ways for Blizzard to manage the issue when they first announced their plans last year. Shame they didn't listen. A lot of us (rightly) protect our sensitive information when online.

If by "sensitive information" you mean a copy of your driver's license, that has always been Blizzard's MO (even before the merge with Activision) for account retrieval. While I am most certainly not siding with Blizzard, you do agree to their EULA to play their game (they won't let you play if you don't agree), and therefore play by their rules.

The same thing can be said about JUB. If you don't agree to JUB's ToS, do you think they would let you on this site? Doubtful. Many people mindlessly click on the 'I Agree' button and don't read the massive of list of stuff/rules and then complain when something happens that is clearly stated in that list and expect people to care.

would you provide a false name to some other company where you sign up for a service that is monthly billed?
