Bob Barker to retire from The Price Is Right

I grew up watching the Price is Right with my grandmother. It was bad enoguh when the announcer died, now no Bob to tell us to spay and neuter our pets? Nope, they should let the show go. They had a good run and it should end while on the top.

The only two people I liked as equally as Bob... well the first, Bill Cullen, who hosted the original version on NBC and ABC from 1956-65, died 16 years ago (and retired a few years before that), and the second, Tom Kennedy, who hosted a weekly nighttime show from 1985-86, is retired from show business. They better pick somebody good.. they've got REALLY big shoes to fill.

........thanks for posting this man_crazy.........it will be an end of an era for sure......he and his former announcer were quite a team..........I grew up with alot of the old game shows as well........another favorite of mine who has been long gone was Jan Murray..........harks me back to the fifities when I was a teenager and growing up being introduced to television........not only the game shows but all the other fun comedies and variety shows.........thanks again for bringing back those memories.

you know what I never understood about the price is right, Why the hell when they get called down do they act sooo happy? Please calm the fuck down you've not won anything yet.

It was bad enough when the announcer died

The Price is Right was never the same without Rod Roddy (and his flashy outfits) hollering "Come On Down!" Without Bob Barker, I really think they should retire the show. Nobody could ever equal the class that Barker has displayed for all these years.

I once saw an episode where a contestant bid on the Showcase Showdown within $100 of the correct price. Well, needless to say, she won both showcases! Sirens went off, and all these lights started sparkling. Well, I guess that happens a lot in game shows, but this was a big deal. Both Showcases! Man, I tell you.

I'll miss that man. (I should add, I haven't watched that show in at least fifteen years.)

Awww I'll miss Bob :( This seems as improbable as a new year without Dick Clark... which also happened. But time must pass I guess. I wish him the best though, he deserves to retire.

This is strange, considering this was my MSN Screen name as of yesterday:

Bob Barker is so Old, That on His First Game Show Ever the Grand Prize was Fire.

Seems I was foreshadowing a bit...

Wow... That is truly and end of an era. I grew up watching Bob on TPIR. When I was home sick from school, I would always watch him. On through my college years, if I didnt have a class, I watched, and on and on. There was just something about him, and that show. I dont think it would be the same without him. The show did loose something when Rod Rodey left, without Bob....it just wont be the same

i so love the price is right. i used to watch it a lot when i was growing up and even through today if i don't have anything to watch on tv i would occasionally tune in. sad to see the show go like that after more than 30 years on the air. so i wonder what is next for daytime. it would be a pleasant idea for cbs to add a new daytime soap on its 11/10am slot. other than that, i think the show will have a mega huge retirement party showing all of the classic clips and memorable moments.

No one at CBS has said anything about cancelling the show, it and Y & R are the two highest rated daytime US network shows. The network realized that once Bob tumed 80 two years ago that this day was coming and have been looking for a new host.

Bob started on Truth or Consequences the month after I was born and moved into TPIR in '72, doing both shows for a short while so he's been on TV my entire life. But all our pets are spayed or neutered.

Fremantle Media, the people that own the show now, are apparently getting a new host for the show.

As much as I love Ryan Seacrest, I honestly hope they dont pick him for that. He just doesnt seem to be the right fit for the show to me. That and he's got a bunch of other jobs.

That didn't stop E! from hiring him... I'm like, "Why is he on this network?!"

Bob started on Truth or Consequences

I remember that show!!! Didn't a city change its name to Truth Or Consequences?
I also remember his wife Dorthy Jo being on that show. I thought she reminded me of Joan Crawford...maybe it was the eyebrows. She passes away many, many years ago. I don't think he ever remarried.
