This just came across the Earthlink news wire, this afternoon. Did anyone else see it?? Is it news worthy enough to post here??

CHICAGO - The lead singer of the band U2 brought his fight against AIDS and poverty to town. Bono and his wife, Ali Hewson, visited the downtown Nordstrom store Saturday to promote a designer T-shirt that will raise money to pay for AIDS medication and medical care in Africa.

The shirts are emblazoned with the logo of Bono's "One" campaign against poverty. They are made in Africa by Edun, a fair trade clothing label started by Bono and Hewson. The company will donate $10 for every $40 shirt sold to a fund supporting the health care of the factory workers who make the shirts.

The shirt factory is in a village in Lesotho in southern Africa.

Bono said he hopes to get 5 million people signed up for his anti-poverty campaign by the next presidential election.

I think the whole point of this shirt is not to look good, but to bring awareness to the cause of this charitable program, which is the fight against AIDS.

20% donation? Manufacturing, etc., costs can't be that much.

they could at least get a shirt that you'd wanna be seen in public wearing.

Why don't "WE" just give the entire $40.00 to fight HIV/AIDS, leave out the middle-man who's getting their share, making millions off of the plight of the sick, and then maybe Africa will be able to fight this damned disease more effectively???

The whole "administrative fee" Bull Shit is simply absurd!!(*8*) (*8*)

Bono should just shut up and go back to making music.

Unfortunately, the AIDS issue is a biggie here in .za - Lesotho is bordered entirely by .za, and is a very poor nation. Surprised that only $10 is going into the charity, though, although $10 is a lot of money here in .za.

So $10 is a lot of money there. I know for sure Bono has enough to offset cost of manufacturing. And I still don't understand why Nordstroms is selling it. Well, I could go off, but I don't want to stereotype.

Argh. Why not a web campaign. It's cheaper.

I agree with cocktales, just donate $40 directly to the charity! It would probably do more good that way.
