Hi!

Can you recommend some good books with one (or more) gay characters.
Fiction, crime, fantasy, whatever.
Not a gay erotic book, although a lovestory with some sex would be nice of course.

Thanks for your help

Have you heard of the one called "The Front Runner", by Patricia Neill Warren, I think. It is a great book with a great love story.

"The Sluts" written by Dennis Cooper

Well, as my screen name says, "Firma" refers to the "chronicles of Firma" by Pat Nelson Childs. Great if you like fantasy. Also, Dream Boy is another personal favorite.

There's a fantasy story where the hero is gay it's called The Steel Remains by Richard Morgan.

I work in a big box book store. It's hard to find much gay related stuff in my store. However, there is a surprising amount of teen gay-related books. I remember one called "Hero", where the main character has super powers and is gay.

The Screwed Up Life of Charlie The Second by Drew Ferguson

Just finished it...it was a great book...really witty

also Josh Kilmer-Purcell's two books "Candy Everybody Wants" and "I Am Not Myself These Days"

"Hero" by Perry Moore

Look for Christopher Rice, his books are great, they have some degree of romance (the first and second) and they are mistery/crime oriented, great books!

I recommend checking out this article, which was a poll AfterElton performed taken by the readers of AE on the top 50 gay-themed books:
http://www.afterelton.com/print/2008/11/bestgaybooks

Books I recommend are:
Call Me By Your Name by Andre Aciman (I believe that's right)

The Coming Storm by Paul Russell

and if you're more into teen novels, then

A Secret Edge by Robin Reardon

Out of the Pocket by Bill Konigsberg

Also, if you haven't heard of it before, InsightOut Books is a gay book club with a large selection, and very easy membership requirements (buy three books after your initial 4 for a buck each sign up deal within three years):

A great book worth reading is Vintage. It is a ghost story and well written.

If you're just looking for things to read I can recommend a few online stories that have kept me content over the years. They are all well written and gay or bi themed. Let me know and I will put a list together.

Maurice, by E M Forster, is great. As is Giovanni's Room, by James Baldwin.
ooh and also At Swim, Two Boys by Jamie O'Neill.

You should check out The Catch Trap by Marion Zimmer Bradley; its about about a boy who joins a family of trapeze artist and has a secret relationship with the star in the 1940's. I first read it when I was just discovering my sexuality around ten or eleven and it was one of the first books I found that didn't have the stereotypical gay characters in it.

"As Meat Loves Salt", by Maria McCann. Excellent book, set during the Revolution in England, mid-1600's.
Also, "At Swim, Two Boys" by Jamie O'Neill. Another great book, set in Ireland during the Easter Uprising.
If you can't tell, I kind of have a thing for historical fiction.
