I am wondering how i go about it. Do i phone my doctors and book an appointment over the phone...? Sort of like

Receptionist: Hello
Me: Hey, i am wondering if i can book an STI exam?

I wish they taught us this stuff in school actually...who we call/where we go. I feel like an idiot having to ask

How do i go about it? I feel like i should get myself checked for myself...to make sure i am 100%. Better to be safe and all that.
 
I have found out that there is a 'Department of Genitourinary Medicine' near me.

Should i just book an appointment there?

I am not sure my suggestion will work for you in the UK.

In large metropolitan areas here in the states, they ususally have free health clinics, which are used to checking for what we label STD's. And there is no embarrassments or judgments at those clinics.

And that should be true with your doctor and whoever takes your phone call and maked that necessary appointment.

And for the record, cheers to you for thinking enough about your own health to get what might be a possible health problem checked.

Most STD's can be cleared up with antibiotics in a matter of a couple of weeks.

It sounds like you have figured things out and that is great. I'm happy you are doing the right thing for yourself and others.

If you feel better going to your Dr. just call the office and schedule a "check up". You don't have to tell the person answering the phone anything. They are there to make the appointment. Once the Dr. comes into the room explain that you are sexually active and think it would be a good idea to get checked. Only the Dr. needs to know. If he/she sends you to the lab for the blood work of course they will see the paperwork but who cares. It is their job to draw the blood. Once you are gone nobody has a clue who you are. You by far are not the only person in the world that is being tested. The important thing is that you are being a responsible adult. I wish everyone would do the same.
