Filmed over 12 years with the same cast, Richard Linklater's BOYHOOD is a groundbreaking story of growing up as seen through the eyes of a child named Mason (a breakthrough performance by Ellar Coltrane), who literally grows up on screen before our eyes. Starring Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette as Mason's parents and newcomer Lorelei Linklater as his sister Samantha, BOYHOOD charts the rocky terrain of childhood like no other film has before. Snapshots of adolescence from road trips and family dinners to birthdays and graduations and all the moments in between become transcendent, set to a soundtrack spanning the years from Coldplay's Yellow to Arcade Fire's Deep Blue. BOYHOOD is both a nostalgic time capsule of the recent past and an ode to growing up and parenting. It's impossible to watch Mason and his family without thinking about our own journey.

Richard Linklater's Boyhood opened at five theaters this weekend and earned $387,618. That translates to a strong $77,524 per-theater average, which ranks second this year behind The Grand Budapest Hotel. The movie has received unanimously positive reviews, and should continue putting up solid numbers as it expands over the next few weeks.

Richard Linklater on the Making of "Boyhood": VICE Meets

I saw this movie last night and it was excellent. One of the best movies I've seen so far. Everyone should go see this movie. Most movies have a lull point and they get dull, but not this movie. It transitions from scene to scene and it progresses from the boy who starts out at age 6 all the way to age 18 when he goes off to college. When the movie ended, I did not want it to end. Check it out everyone!

Saw it last night. It was pretty amazing how the subtle aging of the guy on screen almost made you forget that it took 12 years to make.

Man, I can't wait!! The trailer looks amazing, the premise sounds amazing and I love the Before trilogy (though Linklater's greatest masterpiece is Dazed and Confused if you ask me).

After you see this movie you will change your mind. Boyhood is Linklater's greatest masterpiece!

I wanted to see it since I heard about it, but the fact that it´s almost 3 hours long makes me wanna wait a release so I can see it at home.

When I was a kid, I had this idea of making a movie that took so much time and with the same actors, to actually see them grow old on screen.. who shall I sue? :P
