An opera based on Oscar-winning movie "Brokeback Mountain" is heading for the New York City stage.

Charles Wuorinen has been given the job of adapting Annie Proulx novel for the stage, in a show slated to premiere in 2013.

Ang Lee's movie adaptation scooped three Academy Awards in 2006, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and the late Heath Ledger as two gay ranch hands.

What does one sing while getting backdoor service in a pup tent?

this is one of those things where one just scratches their head and wonder.

Well, if it's a genuine opera, it could work. It all depends on the quality of the music.

Who would have believed before their premiers that brilliant operas could be written about Nixon in China or the Jerry Springer Show?

Not completely new news:

I admit I have not heard a lot of Wuorinen's music but I seem to remember the last thing I heard sounded like someone dropped the silverware on the floor. I don't know how he'll approach this but don't expect Verdi. I wish him well with the project and hope it turns out good.

Even though I hated the film with a fiery vengeance I wouldn't wish this on it. This has 'car crash money spinner' written all over it.

...what took them so long.

Gays love musical theater.
Gays love Brokeback Mountain.
Ka-CHING!

Brokeback Mountain was one of the worst movies I've ever seen....horrible storytelling, horrible acting(only actor I liked in it was Michelle Williams)....i can't imagine this making it any better....

Watch Jack jump an octave or two when Ennis pounds him in the tent.

"OooooAHHHHHHHHH!!!"

A lot of gay guys love this movie, but to be honest, for me, this movie is totally overated.

Ang Lee is a good film maker, however, Brokeback Mountain shouldn't be the one that let him win an Oscar. Besides, I never understand, he showed two actresses' breasts in a gay movie, but the actors, nothing. And the sex scene in it seems so fake. If Lee could do such hot scenes in Lust, Caution, why couldn't he in BM?

Now to the point, I love musicals, if it's well composed, I believe it could be better than the movie.

Some things are best left to the imagination.
