Bulking Up

lots of protein , cottage cheese , lean chicken, and whey shakes

if your working out, which you need to be, its said to have a gram of protein for every pound you weigh. If your working out hard, if your just starting, then you shouldnt be working out too hard, but make it a gram and a half of protein. But your body can only use about 40 grams at a time, say in an hour, so space it out. Be sure to consume some right after a work out, with in 45 minutes is best and right before bed too. And if your serious about "bulking up", assuming you mean muscle, (if not then just do lap in the mcdonalds drive through), then you cant be afraid of adding a few extra.inches to your waist. Its very unlikely to gain muscle with out some fat, but you just take care of that later. I, on the other hand, am an anomaly to this rule -be a it a blessing or curse i am not sure- but either way im not one to talk to when i come to "cutting" BUT after a good two months of heavy lifting and non stop eating, and you seen some significant gains, nothing life changing but noticeable, cut your calories, and free weight time and spend a few days a week doing cardio. Once your down to your skinny jeans again go back to the gaining phase and keep repeating the cycle. good luck and remember what works for one person, will not necessarily work for you. it'll take some time so be patient

OH and a great food for muscle recovery that are probably not the first to come to mind are dark green veggies, espically leafy greens, spinach, kale, collard greens, swiss chard, what every. Loaded with all sorts of good stuff. I like to cook em in a lite tomato broth, and make a hearty soup out of it ! YUM!! and it only takes a few minutes. A lean chicken breast and maybe some grains(Quinoa is great, look it up if you've never heard of it) and you have an awsome meal!!

OOOOOOKaaaaaaay.... I DID NOT! make that extra inches a link on my original post... thanx JUB but no

Hmmmm for me i usually say celery is like.....the one and only ultimate dieting food, and if you want the real thing you need to eat the real thing....buy some organic celery and eat it like it is .....no peanut butter or ranch or anything...just like it is...i know the taste is gonna suck but..it works wonders for you ;)

(if you choose to boil it make sure you drink the water you boiled it in, helps the taste a little, throw in some carrots to help the taste too if you want)

I love celery by itself so no problem there, but isn't celery just for trimming down, not bulking up?

Sorry about that. I fixed it for you.

HAHA! thanx kara ;)

and i say skip the celery that thing about bulking up is when you go out to eat and your sissy friends get salads, you get to eat spaghetti with meat sauce, side of steak and french fries!! totally different end of the spectrum! ...but do try to eat clean. not all meals need to be chocolate cake and cheetos! in fact no meal should.

LOL ...same boat here... but i did have an extra helping of lasagna at dinner today ;)

...i was thinking about this thread earlier today. If you have an iPhone there a few weight management apps that can help with this, maybe a few websites too, of course none i can think of right now, BUT, you really should measure your calorie intake. Assuming your in the states, the daily recommendation of calorie intake is 2000. But what is easily forgettable is that that is an AVERAGE, of the whole country!! (i think Canada uses the same system). But for me, with professional help, i have calculated i need 4580 calories a day!! THATS MORE THAN DOUBLE!! AND!! THATS TO MAINTAIN WEIGHT!! not gain any extra!! its a struggle to find time to eat already!. For the record im 6 feet 2 inches tall and 190 pounds ( i know, to most standards, im hardly thin, but i have ridiculously long limbs and i'd like to hit 210) i have a fairly active job and i work out 5 days a week for about an hour a day, that all contributes. i just thought that might give you some perspective on what you really need to be doing. and like i said before, it takes lots of patients. and lots and lots AND LOTS of "diet" food;)
