I have a large file that I want to burn to a cd (2.96mb) but my burner tells me the file is too large, can anyone tell my how I can burn a file this size to a 700mb cd or how else I can get this file off my pc and onto a hard disk?
thanks in advance

ps sorry meant file, not five

2.96GB I assume you mean.

You'll have to split the file to spread it across multiple CDs.

Thanks for the reply. but I cannot do that, The file is actually a copy of Vista that I downloaded and payed $140 for. then I find out I have to burn it to a cd to install it, hence the problem. My operating system is xp with service pack 1 and if i download service pack 2 my pc goes hatwire. So programs that I need to burn it with won't work on my pc, such as the latest nero.
I have asked them for a refund and they have basically told me "tuff luck"

I take it you dont have a dvd burner ? If you do , in your burning software you have to tell it you want a dvd not a cd, of course have a dvd handy. I suspect you have a ISO (image file) of Vista so you need to burn differently then you normally do.I'm not in front of a windows machine at the moment but you need to check out burning ISO. If you dont have a dvd burner find someone with either a laptop or external burner to help you.

As far as I know, Vista is only available on proper DVDs and nowhere as a download (unless illegally). Where did you get it from?! Sounds like a scam.

The site is called www.shoparhive.com

I do have a dvd burner. I burnt the file to a dvd instead of a cd and it worked (I think) But now when I load the dvd and try to open it it tells me windows cannot open this file blah blah. I went to windows and downloaded winimage (the program to open it and now all I have is a file called readme txt on winimage. I cannot open or extract it?

Okay you now need to go into the Bios (if your burn is okay) hit delete key when restarting computer, use the arrow keys to navigate, esc and enter keys can be used to navigate too, find boot priority and choose boot off cdrom as first drive, hdd as second. When exiting you need to save by hitting F10 or typing y when requested for yes or no. Bios's are different but this is the basics. Have you saved all the files you want yet ? Have the dvd in the drive of course
Might be a good idea that you wait for more advice before you do anything.
What version of vista did you purchase ?

I bought vista home basic.
I did all you said to do and it started to install, but I got message say I only had 248 mb of memory and that I needed at least 512 to install. so I guess I will have to go out and buy some more memory.
Thank you so much for your help (this has been driving me crazy for over a week)
How do they expect some dumb ass like me to know and do all this with no instruction
