hi guys
I have an 'avi' movie file in my computer that i want to burn onto cd or dvd so i can watch it on our big tv. The file is 800mb.
I have nero 6 and tried using the vcd option but it said the blank cd-r I put in didnt have enough space. Does that mean i have to split it onto 2 cds or is there a way for me to put it on dvd so its all on 1 disc?
Can i use a dvd-r if im making a vcd? -because its not letting me!
PLease help... i just want to watch that damn thing on a bigger system :)

Thanks

I've had the same problem, but I burned it with burn4free and there was no problem doing it on that same DVD.

I'll put it this way. I have trouble burning anything that is not .avi.
So I'm not sure what you mean. I burn .avi's with Nero sometimes and it works. I found 700 m avi's that Nero said wasn't enough space. It needed something like 4g to burn it.
I have taken a couple .avi's that Nero said was too small and burned it on a DVD using burn4free.
This is where I'm not sure what you are asking.
I like to use burn4free because something that takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours with Nero I can burn in 15 to 20 mins using burn4free.

have you actually used burn4free to convert an avi file to DVD format and/or burn to a DVD disc? It's just that I've searched their website and can't find any reference to converting an avi file etc.

I can't tell you if I've converted the .avi file to DVD format. But I can say I've burned it to a DVD disc.

I haven't kept a record of which ones I have done so I cannot confirm this.

I've had trouble with burn4free. I bought Compusa DVDs and burn4free would not burn using them. I had to get Nero to use them. Since then I have bought Imation DVDs and the only problem was Nero saying too small.

But I know I've used burn4free where Nero said too small.

Does any of this make sense??

(this was supposed to go before your last post.)

Let me apologise for not knowing what I do.
When you say converting avi to dvd format is where I get lost.
I mean if you can't find it at burn4free, I must be doing something else.
It is my unknowing opinion that I burn avi to DVD discs. I most certainly
can be wrong. It's just it is very unusual I burn anything that is not .avi.

Yep - and no ;)

I think maybe you have a pretty good DVD player and it's possible that it can play avi/divx files (quite a few do nowadays) so the files may not have been converted to DVD format but still played - ya see?

If you say so.
Now with this post of yours reminded me some of what I get is divx.
I'm of the mind if it works, great, if it doesn't try burn4free.

Also I wanted to thank you for the link to WinAVI Video Converter and that reminds me some I get are .vob and they burn to DVD disc ok, but probably using Nero.

thanks for your help guys
I decided to use winavi and that worked great! ..|

Now that rusty80 seems to have his answer I won't worry about being off topic. It may not be.

Since I mentioned using divx before, something strange happened about an hour ago that explains why I stay confused.

I found a movie to burn. it is a divx. I said I have no probs with it but Murphy came into the room

I opened Nero and right away it would not recognize divx. Strange.
I opened burn4free as I am wont to do and it won't read it either.
Ok I have divx movies/player/converter I realize it is to convert non divx to divx. I'm learning!

I can't find I have anything to burn it so I start over, open Nero and wham bam thank you maam it reads it and burns it.

There you have it!!
It's a continuing play on confusion.
That's all folks.:p
