One of my favourite movie musicals of all time. Anybody else love it as much as I do?

Liza Minelli .... amazing as Sally Bowles ....

Joel Grey .... stunning as the emcee ....

Michael York .... OMG (*drools*) ....

And that unforgettable ending ....

I love it, too. Def one of my favorites. I have seen stage productions of it as well that were fantastic. But, I always have those two in mind when I am watching. Perfect casting!

I'm not usually a fan of musicals, but Cabaret was an exception. Liza was fantastic in that role.

However.......

Liza was up against Diana Ross in 1972 for best actress in "Lady Sings the Blues" Liza won. I thought for "acting" Diana should have won.
In my opinion, Liza was the better performer but Diana was the better actress in her movie.

So..... there should have been two awards given out that year, but I know that doesn't happen in "Tinsel Town".

This show has some of my favorite music. I do like the movie, but i had the fortune to see a stage version of this that belw my mind a while back. The Nazi overtones made the show simply chilling at times. They also played with the sexuality of people openly in the show. *one of the kit kat girls was actully a boy in drag* I get chills just thinking about the show.

Yes, yes, yes. Absolutely a triumph for Liza and Bob Fossee. The intimate club scenes have you smelling of smoke and laughing through the songs. (After the movie was such a hit, a club opened in Atlanta where each table facing the stage did have a phone so that you could call other tables and talk to people you wanted to meet.)
I was about 16 years old and didn't quite understand the whole bi-sexual threeway until Michael York told Liza to "...fuck Maximillian." She did, and so did he.

What a great movie! I am now going to have to Netflix it again. I also saw it on Broadway at Studio 54 two times, once with Jennifer Jason Leigh and the other with Molly Ringwald (who knew she could sing) and John Stamos (hot!)

BTW: the pink triangle was originally used by Hitler at the Concentration Camps

I can't watch the movie knowing how much of the score is missing. It was the same when they made the crap movie of Chicago and cut half a dozen songs from the score.

"Cabaret" is one of the few times when the movie was far superior to the stage show. Whatever moron decide to take "Maybe This Time" out of the Broadway version should be shot.

^^Maybe This Time was written for the movie (and Liza) for an Acadamy Award bid. It wasn't in the original Broadway score.

You are wrong, Upstairs.

Two Oscars were given to two actresses in a tie. One to Kate Hepburn, the other to Barbra Streisand. Can you name the year? Even better, can you name their films?

Maybe This Time was added to the Broadway revival that starred Alan Cumming and is in the current West End revival.
