I went from 2 soft drinks a day to a couple a week and replaced it with 4 cups of coffee and a diet change. I have always had little to no effect from caffeine, I used to drink a quad espresso at a shop that serves Illy espresso but these days I feel more alert from it but can still fall asleep from it. Salt on the other hand has had a big effect on me and if I consume over the daily recommended amount of it is drink more water to wash it out. So yes things can effect you as you get older. There are foods and restaurants I loved that I can no longer enjoy due to the salt levels in the food. Researching salt in foods after I had a major blood pressure increase I found there were days I consumed 3-5 times the daily amount and some of my favorite meals had 4-5,000 mg of sodium in it. So maybe if the young folks read this limit yourself before your body limits you.
My salt sensitivity happened over two days, 3 meals eaten out over 2 days turned my life food wise upside down
