I saved a woodpecker today that was somehow stuck in the snow. He didn’t even peck at me. I pet his head, gently checked his wings and lifted him out. I held him for a minute and set him back down. He squawked a couple times and flew away

I just hope he didn’t have bird flu

Is he blushing? What did you whisper to him?

That is a good picture. I feel like I've heard wood peckers in my area but never seen one.

Poor guy must have been frozen a bit.

BTW

There is a species of woodpecker called the 'Hairy Woodpecker'

I think he may have hit the window and crash landed.

Our hero.

He very likely did crash and fortunately landed upright because otherwise they usually die fairly quickly.

We haven't seen our pecker families this year but they should be in the crabapple on the terrace soon!

He was back at the bird feeder today so he’s ok. I love watching him, he pulls all the nuts out of the mix and sticks them in a tree he’s pecked holes into.
