Camera SLR, w/c is better?

Canon is a much bigger company than nikon.
I would go for Canon, more lens choices for lower prices.

By the way,
look at sports photographers, they all use canon for a reason. ;)

Best camera info and review website is at Ken Rockwells site (sorry, youll have to manually type that, no URLs for me until 25 posts!)
There is just TONS of info and reviews for almost anything photography you could imagine. And definitely not sugarcoated, like you are asking for.
First off, I must ask why are you drawn to these 2 cameras?
And it all depends on what you plan to do with them. Whether its for fun or a profession, perhaps college class?
If you need something entry-level in the world of dSLRs, my honest opinion is to maybe buy the model that is a little cheaper and has less bells and whistles.
Spend that saved money on much more needed accessories, lenses for example.

When picking my dSLR I had to choose a brand. I had friends who had both Nikon and Canon, and in my opinion the Nikon just felt better to shoot with, menu navigation was great, so I ended up with a Nikon. Try to shoot with both, borrow some from friends, use the floor models. Do your research, and narrow down what you plan to shoot with the camera. Action sports, portraits, landscape/nature, urban? Figure that out, and you will find a camera that is suited to you and your needs.
