You are right in that you can control how deep you want to take it, but I've found I can take it easier lying on my side. You just have to have an understanding partner that will listen and stop when it becomes painful.

And yes, what Jasun said makes plenty of sense. Slightly push out as you take it in. This makes entry much easier.

I tend to find buttplugs really uncomfortable. As long as you're sensible about the vibe size it can still be an option.
