You mean run 2 OS on the same machine? My friend did it, but he built his own computer. I dont kno about a pc that comes with vista on it. Years ago i ran ME and XP on the same pc (my scanner wouldnt work with XP, that's y i kept ME on the comp).

It's possible you will have to partition the hard drive and install Vista on one partition and XP on the other. A quick run search with Google should return a few how-tos.

Yeah, you definitely can. It's called dual booting. Do a Google search for "dual boot vista xp" without the quotes and you should get all the information you need.

Just to add, on the shrink command prompt I altered it slightly to give a certain size:

Code:
shrink desired=15000 minimum=10000

What this will do is try and give you 15GB if this is not available it will give you as much as it can unless it is less than 10GB and the command will fail.

as other people said, you can either dual boot or virtualize.

with dual booting you set one section of the harddrive aside for xp and the other section aside for vista and the both of them live like neighbors on your computer.

virtualization is another option where you used vmware player and put xp on it. this way, vista treats the vmware with xp like it's just another program. vmware player is free now, so it couldn't hurt to try. :D
