Is there anyone here that lives around Cape Trib...Port Douglas...Cooktown?
Tell me all about it, I want to move there. The most beautiful part of the world.

Don

I'm from SE Qld , I take it that you have been to FNQ , what sort of info are you looking for ? I havnt been up there in quite awhile but the road to Cooktown (which is a bit isolated for me)was very rough in sections where the road to Pt Douglas is sealed and an easy journey into Cairns. Since my last visit I know that houses using solar etc have been built in the Cape Trib area but i still think the only way in is the ferry over the Daintree.

I want to know before I buy.

Cape Trib...

I know you can only get to it by way of the ferry over the riv, what I am asking is... what kind of life, could I expect, up there?

I live now in a sub tropical rainforest, so they say, but it is all built up, all city. I want to move, take my money, and go...

The dream is...Cape Trib...

Well for starters you'll be living in a tropical zone with 2 seasons wet and dry , high rainfall especially in the wet season(Dec-March),32c av days 60% + humidity,in winter av 25c, a very pleasant time . Swimming in the coral sea is not an option in the summer months due to the marine stingers and you'll probably have to go inland to find a safe creek with no crocs. Be prepared for lots of insects especially the mossies. You'll be living with frogs geckos and snakes wanting to come inside as well as the bugs. If living in rain forest you can expect low light mould and dampness as well as smell if ventilation is poor.I imagine the cost of living will be higher because of transport cost and it being primarily a tourist area. I think you'll find that there will be no town sewerage, water, electricity grid and limited postal service. Mobile ph reception is extremely limited and possibly no broadband. Expect crappy roads and conditions in the area.Nearest hospitals are either Cooktown or Cairns.Govt employment agency centrelink.gov.au For housing check out realestate.com.au and domain.com.au. It might be helpful to go on gaydar , Qld far nth room and chat to the locals.Check out Douglas shire web page dsc.qld.gov.au and Qld govt qld.gov.au Broadband discussion forum whirlpool.net.au
Good Luck with your dream

Good lord, thank you, I finaly found out what I wanted to know. Someone that actually answered my question.

Thank you...

Glad to see that the info was useful. I was wrong about the hospital nearest one is in Mossman, which isnt as far away. There are no banks in Cape Trib just ATM's and probably the ones that cost $2 to use. Immigration dept immi.gov.au
