Chocolate Milk After Work Out? Lose Weight/Build Muscle

So I am trying to lose weight and build muscle along the way. I want to be more lean. I read online that drinking chocolate milk after a work out helps repair muscle. I want to make sure I am doing this right. While I do want to build muscle, losing my belly is priority. I do both cardio and weight lifting. Will drinking a chocolate milk after a work out prevent me from slimming down? Or will it help build muscle as I lose weight? I don't need to drink chocolate milk after work, I am fine with water, but if it'll help me out I will.

I also count my calories and am under my total calories at the end of the day when I finish my work out.

It depends on how much added sugar is in the chocolate milk. Milk is the source of whey protein which is a good source of protein. Adding chocolate is fine but if you're looking to trim fat, be sure that it's not a sugary children's chocolate like Nestle's Quik or one of the pre-prepared chocolate milks that are available in the dairy case. These forms of chocolate milk have quite a bit of added sugar.

Most chocolate milk is whole milk with 4% fat. I think it is counterproductive when you are trying to lose body fat.

I disagree on the fat, consuming fat doesn't necessarily make you fat.

I use milk as a source of protein, and I think you'll be okay too. Just watch the sugar, as Karabulut stated.
Try to keep the cardio and weightlifting on seperate days if possible.

I'm not going to argue over what's best, there's too many different reports with different conclusions.

It really depends on the whole diet, not just what you drink right after exercising.
I'd still say that drinking chocolate milk after working out is better than water.

Oh yeah, hi guys. Long time, no see ;)

^Agree. And what studies can't really evaluate is how each person will respond. Not everyone responds the same way to particular elements of diet and exercise. Everyone has to find what works for them.

And to OP's original question- he enjoys his chocolate milk. Life is too short not to enjoy a treat every now and then.
