Cleveland International Film Festival 2017

I was looking through the list of movies they are showing. I always pick out quite a few that I want to consider and narrow them down. In past years I have gone to 8, 11, and 14 and thought that was too much and need to cut them down, but didn't. I preliminarily picked out 37 this year and narrowed them down to 26 and finally narrowed them down to 16. That would be the most that I have ever gone to, but I am retired and don't have to take care of my elderly father now, so I guess that I could have the time to go to all of them if I can justify spending the money. I hope that none of them have sold out yet, and am looking forward to it.

Tonight (actually Thursday) I went to see "Center of My World", which I would rate an "A", and "Lost in Paris", which I would rate an "A-", and "The Hippopotamus", which I would rate "B", and "Do You Take This Man", which I would rate an "A+". Obviously, I enjoyed all of them, but "Do You Take This Man" most of all, which really surprised me. The first was in German, the second one in French, and the last two were in English.

Friday I went to see "Some Freaks" which although good, didn't have a happy ending so it wasn't my favorite. Saturday I went to see "King of the Belgians" which was kind of unusual, but good. I had wanted to see "Carrie Pilby" on Friday, but it was sold out. It had a good review from the Toronto Film Festival.

Sunday I saw a group of shorts grouped under "The Next Webisode". Most of them didn't make too much sense to me. I also saw "El Revenge" which was pretty good but not super. Today I saw six shorts grouped together which included: "Democracy in the Driver's Seat" and "The Fare" which were good but not pleasant stories, and "Skinny Fat Girl" which was really pretty good. I also saw "Paris 05:59 Theo & Hugo" which was good and sexy and had two hot stars and included nudity and sex. I enjoyed it and would recommend it.

Today I saw "Heartstone". It was pretty good and was about two friends in their early teens in Iceland and the problems one had in his community because he was gay.

Wednesday I saw "Pushing Dead" about a guy whose government money for his HIV prescriptions cut off because he received a $100 gift which put him over the limit for government help and he had to wait a few weeks without prescriptions for the next cycle; and I also saw "Contemporary Color" about the flag throwing marchers during football games.

Friday I saw "Pop Aye" about a guy in Thailand and his elephant and "The Young Offenders" about a couple of teenagers in Ireland.

Saturday I saw "Gilbert's Grim Revenge" and the "Comedy Shorts" compilation of 10 short movies. The comedy shorts weren't all that funny, but "Gilbert's Grim Revenge" was about an eleven year old boy who is allergic to eggs and his aunt sits with him during his parents vacation and tries to monopolize his time instead of letting him be with his peers. He tries to get revenge on his aunt and there was a funny part where I burst into laughter. This was funnier than the comedy shorts and I would recommend this movie.

Sunday I saw "Dave Made A Maze".

The film festival is over until next April. 106,000 people attended this year over twelve days which is a new record.
