Memory Alpha says his Irish name is Colm Ó Maonaigh.

He played Miles O'Brien in Star Trek: TNG and Deep Space Nine.

How is his name pronounced?

^ The man I knew here pronounced it as 'May-nee'.

I've spoken to English genealogists who say that families would spell and pronounce their names anyway they wanted. We here weren't required to register names here prior to the 1850s. So many people were illiterate at that time anyway.

Is that 'Maney' as in 'May-nee' or 'Man-nee'?

It's May-nee, but his Irish name is quite different. More like O Mwoy-o-ne (bad phonetics I am sure, but its as close as I can think right now!)

I always though it was pronounced like mean-y, like that old man is a right mean-y.

I thought this was about the former Iranian Ayatollah.....................

There's no shame in being ignorant.

Two thirds of the population are shockingly ignorant.
