Hey everyone, I'm new to this website and wanted to say hi and ask for some advice. I'm a Freshmen in college and I'm bi ... but I'm wondering what's the easiest way to come out to my friends ... they are all straight and like to act gay sometimes but they always bash gay people which makes me afraid to come out to them. So if anyone has some advice for me it would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to JUB!

Yeah, that's the best way. Stop hiding it, don't play pronoun games, and just go on the assumption that they know and they're cool with it. I've found people are quick to pick up on your cues. If YOU treat it like it's some huge secret that "none must know", then they will, too. If YOU treat it like it's no big deal, then they will, too. If any of your friends give you the "dude wtf" routine, just return it.

"Dude, what are you - bi?!"
"Uh, yeah? Duh?"

Sounds like good advice to me.

Actually, it's basically what I'm doing here too. I'm not telling anybody anything, but I'm not really hiding anything either. I'm just doing what I want to do and if they don't like it then they can go hang out with someone else. Life goes on.

Thanks a lot guys it's real good advice but one question ... What about dating? If I want to bring a boyfriend do I just pop and say "Hey guys this is my b/f whatever" or should I break it to them before that?

Good point I hadn't even considered what kind of position that would put him in ... I'm so selfish ... But thanks for the advice. :D

Straight people don't have to announce or apologize for dating the opposite gender, so treat it casually as others have suggested.

As for introducing your boyfriend, you don't necessarily have to spring him on the group all at once. Introduce him to your more open-minded friends first. Invite him along when you're doing something with a small group of your friends. Word will get around so that when you do introduce him to the larger group, it won't be much of a surprise.

Thesee days, most people should know that at least one of the people in their circle of friends is gay or bi. If they're shocked, they've led a pretty sheltered life until now.
