Computer Problems

Hello everybody. Have been without a computer for the last few days. My computer just stopped working became very slow and then nothing would work. I have an old laptop but due to my vision loss I could barely see what I was doing. I have spent the last few days trying to copy my files to an external hard drive, it was really time consuming and slow. I was able to copy all the important stuff. Finally, last night, I had an idea and updated my browser from Safari to Duck, Duck, Go. I was then able to update Safari and everything went back to normal so far. It is so important to keep the back ups up to date.

Good to hear you were able to solve the problem. Yes, backups are important. I've saved myself a lot of grief because I had both data and system backups. I am happy you had them, and are back online.

I am surprised by the amount of people that don't have any kind of back up system for their computers, tablets or even phones. I had a friend whining and moaning about how she lost all her data when first, her computer died and later on her phone. Another very intelligent friend that happens to work from home, lost all her data twice because her computer had a melt down. After having a conversation about it, she now purchased a back up system which we are going to help her put together. I feel glad that we have always had a back up system for all our devices and even a back up to the back up.
