Computer to surf inter net only

Will somebody please recommend the purchase of a new computer to be used for surfing the internet only. dont need lotsa GIGABYTES and file storage space. Just for mama who wants only to surf around. The fewer bells and whistles the better. Thanks much

As much as it grieves me to say......HP has been putting together some fairly decent low end machines.
Shop Staples or Bestbuy online and see what's near you.
By a cheap HP and it'll do everything your Mom needs to do.......
MY Mom is still using my old IBM AMD Aptiva........

If you literally only want it to surf the web, just buy the cheapest laptop you can find and make sure your antivirus stuff is up to date.

I'm 100% in favour of Macs, but they ain't cheap and are therefore a bit of overkill in this situation.

Netbooks are really cheap now days. I love mine for hauling around and doing some minor computing and surfing at work.

I love my netbook too.......but his Mom might find the keyboard to be a little difficult......and perhaps the small screen wouldn't work well for her.
I'd stay with a conventional cheap PC AND you can buy a 22" LCD monitor for not much over $100 right now.

I'd be tempted to get something with a version of Linux on it to get rid of the virus problem and all the annoying popups warning you that you haven't brushed your hair etc and to confirm that that is OK.

I hated the micro keyboard at first, but after using it exclusively for a week I got (mostly) used to it. It still bothers me that some keys are re-arranged. I also hate touch pads, and use a USB micro Mouse.

emachines. we got my mom one last christmas for exactly the same thing you are describing for your mom. we paid less than 400 bucks i think. the ones i link to below do not have monitors with them (i would go with something other than the cheapest one there. it's processor isn't that fast. some have windows XP still, some vista and some have windows 7. it's probably better to go with windows 7).
