Every few months or so (some times more frequently), I get a burning rash between my legs. It burns when I walk, I'll touch it and it'll just feels sweaty and raw. Not to mention, the smell! As soon as I drop my pants or spread my legs, there is a terrible smell. Every now and then, I'll run toilet paper on it and the part of the toilet paper that touched it would be yellow and smell. Sometimes showering helps, sometimes not. What I noticed works often once it's bad and you do it a few days is balmex. Even that can be a crap shoot.

Is this normal? Should I be concerned?

(I sometimes believe there is a correlation between the rash and the more sexually active I am or the more I masturbate. Not sure if it's true, but it feels like that at times)

Sounds like a bad case of Jock Ich, get some over counter spray/cream for Jock ich. change underwear often, I would use Lamasil cream.

If it still does not help you will need Rx for stronger med from your doctor

You might have jock itch. try some cream or spray for jock itch

It does sound like a bad case of jock itch...maybe ringworm. There are several good over-the-counter creams to apply to the affected areas as directed. If that fails, see your doctor for something stronger but the creams are pretty effective these days. Try your best not to scratch it as it can get more infected.

Call your pharmacist and ask about Zeasorb powder. Not sure if it needs a prescription or not. It is medicated powder that is really effective against a multitude of fungal infections and I highly recommend it.

Definitely sounds like jock itch!

I've had the same issue and to really successfully manage it (at least long term) you have to go to Dermatologist and get a strong prescription ointment. The bacteria actually gets into your follicles and regrows along with your hair (yuck!) - at least that's what it did for me. You may need an oral medication if that doesn't work to kill the bacteria.

Don't take this personally, but are you overweight? I used to be and along with using Zeasorb powder, going to the Dermatologist, and losing weight, I nearly solved the problem - it rarely happens and it never is as bad.

If it is just a result of chafing...best advice I was ever given was to use a dry stick deodorant (like Ban) on the inside of your legs where the rubbing occurs. I am a few pounds over my "ideal" weight and was getting chafing a lot in the summer. If I am gonna be on my feet all day in humid or hot weather, a little sick deodorant (separate from my regular deodorant of course!) has been a miracle cure for me. Baby powder and any powder products were useless once I start any perspiration down there!.

Wouldn't think of that if you have an active rash though...more of a preventative measure.

.
This is a good all-purpose powder. It'll make your balls tingle too! :D

As the other members have commented, it's tinea cruris also known as "jock itch". Basically, it's an overgrowth of fungus that is usually on your skin.

As creepy as it sounds, we all have fungus that lives on the surface of our bodies. It feeds on dead skin cells and sweat and under normal conditions, it minds its own business and may help keep bacteria from getting out of hand. When there is too much food- i.e. dead skin, sweat, heat- then it can get out of control. The more it gets out of control, the more skin it eats- which results in a rash, oozing and soreness in the area.

The first thing that you can do is get rid of its food and the stuff it needs to grow. This means drying well after showering or bathing. In particular, you want to dry any areas where there is a fold in the skin- between the legs, between the buttcheeks, under the scrotum, etc. Body powders based in cornstarch may help. Zinc oxide ointment can help. Switching to cotton underwear can help. Changing underwear quickly after workouts or after getting sweaty will help.

Once it gets overgrown and a weeping rash develops, you will usually need to get an antifungal ointment from your doctor. Even after the fungus is brought under control by the ointment, it may take a while for the skin to heal and the rash to go away.
