My laptop is constantly getting disconnected from my house's wireless...none of the other computers do though. I have to go down to the hub at least 3 times a day to unplug and plug it back in to restart my connection. Is there any way to stop this from happening? Is it something wrong with my computer that it always disconnects? I mean I pick up my neighbors wireless stronger then mine most times...even if i'm standing right next to the hub.

If the other computers don't have this problem, the problem is most likely in your computer. It is dropping the "handshake" with the wireless device for some reason. There are some settings in your computer that may need tweaked and maybe someone knows how to do that. Could be a software issue. Could be the physical location of your computer. Sorry I can't be of more specific help.

You could try changing the wireless channel. Maybe where you use your laptop there is interference from another network on the same channel.

I don't know much about computers, but I do know that when it comes to your car radio and those really huge antenna tower thingies, closer doesn't mean better reception. Maybe the same principle applies?

how do I change the channel? haha...I'll ask my dad if he knows how to do that. Thanks for the advice guys!

Really need to know what router to advise on how to get to its settings. The ones I deal with are different from the settings Onion gives above. Start / Run / cmd / ipconfig /all should give you your gateway address and this is the one you should use to configure your router.

haha i totally don't understand any of what either of you said...lol

translation of trawler69:

We can't help you much unless we know the manufacturer and model of your modem and/or router. To find out the address of your router, do the following:

Click on "Start"
Click on "run"
In the box, type "cmd" and press enter
At the black window, type "ipconfig /all" (exactly that, one space and forward slash)
If you go through the list of stuff, you'll see a line titled either "Default Gateway".
The number you see there (probably something like 192.169.1.1), write it down.

This is the IP address you'd use to configure your router.

what kind of wireless router do you have? and whats your ISP?

try reboot your wireless router, clear all the info by reboot it and set it up again, hopefully you know how to do that :)
