hello,

does anyone have any suggestions on sites that can rip youtube audio and convert it to mp3?

I've used several (vid2mp3 and HDdownloader) but they are hit or miss on extracting and converting the audio to even a decent high quality (at least 256).

Any suggestions on other sites/programs that anyone uses or knows of ...

RealPlayer can do it........ Once you have the files loaded in your Library, you right click the file, select "Convert to", then select the file type and bit-rate.

However, please note that although I know it can do it, I've never used this feature.

Free software: video converter, ipod converter, mp4 converter

I'd go here. Download and install, and you have a large selection of conversion options. It's what I personally use for conversions--all types. Very high quality if you want it to be (you have many different quality options).

It's one download--all the different modules can be downloaded as standalone, but it's much more convenient to get them all in one package. Less size, selection menu, no bloat etc.

Don't expect great quality from YouTube downloads/conversions...
Who knows what quality it was originally saved as (in this case I mean the original uncompressed WAV audio quality)
Then its compressed to MP4 at whatever bit-rate they choose (any compression causes quality loss).
By converting MP4 -> MP3 what you are actually doing is uncompressing MP4 to WAV, and then re-compressing that WAV to MP3 (re-compress results in further quality loss) ... but guess you can't complain since its a free audio file :) LOL.

Realplayer will do it. I've used it. But, 72-Jay is right don't expect great quality. I think it sounds "thin" for lack of a better word.
