So the Department of Energy wants to ban gas stoves after all (following the example of California) but doing it under the subterfuge of setting standards as opposed to an outright ban.

Gas my ex grandmother had electric EVERYTHING SHE EVER MADE WAS ALWAYS BURNED! Either she couldnt or didnt have it calibrated or just couldnt figure she needed to drop the temp by 25-50 degrees! Electric dries out food gas is a moister heat.

Not surprising, somehow. Just engineer things so the market will die.

I loved this line in the article:

Comically, Biden’s Department of Energy is justifying this proposed requirement based on estimated savings to the consumer for gas cooktops of $21.89 over the next 14.5 years, which equates to a savings of just $1.50 per year. People are not willing to trade such substantially decreased functionality and features for minuscule savings

Minuscule, indeed! I have limited means AND I tend to be cheap. But even so, I don't care in the least about $1.50 a year.

Something else to consider: I don't know about current pricing, but I have heard that in many places gas stoves cost less to operate than electric. So they get so excited about $1.50 savings, which isn't much--but to enforce may kill the gas stove industry--when a gas stove today might actually cost less than the electric they want to push.

I cynically wonder if the push for electrification of everything is really about the merits they claim. And how much is appeasing some interests that want to see it go all electric for whatever reason. Could be something as simple as bribes campaign donations from groups wanting to push electric.

I have never bought a stove, and I've never had a gas stove. But this has me thinking I'd really like to have a gas stove--just to rebel against the "you will have electric shoved down your throat" agenda.

The shift to electric is based on the hope that hydroelectric, nuclear, wind and solar energy will reduce the demand for fossil fuels.

We either have the choice of Propane or Electric here...and as much as I would like to shift to propane, there are some challenges we have to accommodating the tanks.

Otherwise I would be right on it.

The article starts with one word in red letters placed above the title: Opinion.

And the author, Debbie Lesko, is an Arizona politician who likely has people/corporations to please.

Natural gas being, if not a fossil fuel strictly speaking, certainly a contributor to climate change.

And for all that gas stoves really are superior to most electric stoves, gas is a dangerous substance to have in your house. There's a reason the little restaurant next door made me leave the house when they had a gas leak.

Quite possibly.

And maybe I'm cynical, but I have to wonder if the politicians on the other side of the argument have someone they need to please. Someone, that is, other than the constituents they supposedly represent. Normal people don't matter, except for voting them into power. And maybe even that doesn't matter, if the allegations of a rigged system are true. But perhaps I've gotten a little cynical.

Maybe a little.

As I have said above way back many posts...my perfect range is gas burners and electric convection ovens.

Debbie Lesko is a Republican- in case it isn't obvious.

I think it is pretty obvious.

The amazing thing is that I will bet that most of the GQP votership has only ever had an electric range...so the wailing and the whining will only appeal to the select detached dwelling homeowner that has a Garland range in each of their two houses.

Which is why this rage has no grass-roots traction.
