Cooking

My boyfriend loves when I make Greek moussaka and homemade baklava.
(I don't like him to be in my kitchen... he's not the greatest cook.... but he knows that)

I've had quite a bit of practice and use 2 woks and an oven. It's all in the preparation and knowing what can be kept warm while doing another dish. Eg rice can be kept warm so can sauces, things with vegetables / meat can't, well they can but they tend to loose the crispness and the flavours run together.

But you're an experienced cook -- the OP is a novice I think. Takes a lot of practice.

First time I tried a Chinese meal for guests, we didn't sit down to eat till after 10 -- kinda took the fun out of it. And wasn't near as good as what you can get in a restaurant.

I also like to make vegetarian squash soup with homemade sourdough bread bowls.

You can even serve it in actual squashes. Slice the top off, scoop out most of the insides, and cut a thin slice off the bottom so they'll stand up. Bake until edible but not falling apart. Fill them with soup and put the top back on. "Your guests will love it!".

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting this is supposed to be for a date! In that case, the menu would depend on what kind of date it's supposed to be:

Getting-to-know-you date: Fettucine al pesto, broiled salmon fillets with hollandaise sauce, mesclun salad, tiramisu from your local Italian bakery. A chardonnay would be nice.

The sex date: Boiled new potatoes topped with sour cream and caviar, filet mignon, Caesar salad, chocolate mousse. Bring out your best cabernet sauvignon.

Just-a-cozy-evening-together date: Lasagne, salad, crusty french bread, cut up fruit (marinated with liqueur or pomegranate juice). Zinfandel.

The kiss-off date: Campbell's soup, frozen burritos & canned refried beans, Hostess ho-ho's for dessert. Old Milwaukee beer.

The stomach is truly the way to a mans heart. I made dinner for my husband on our 3rd date, and we've been together ever since. The incredibly hot sex was what kept bringing us together, but the dinner cinched the deal. ;) Sauteed chicken breast in a mustard cream sauce, rice, and broccoli; and for dessert a fresh fruit tart.

I'd skip the hors d'oeuvre, and replace it with a nice array of china spoons filled with delicacies, shrimps, ham mousse and the like, or small cornet of smoked ham filled with foie gras or liver paté, cured ham with asparagus, avocado mousse with caviar, if you're rich, if not with lump's eggs....with a glass of bubbly.
To follow with something which can simmer quietly till you're ready, rabbit bourguignonne, fricassée de poulet, lamb and belgian endives...
And a fruit salad, with or without some ice, as sweet.
A strong coffee, and some Courvoisier, and then ....(!)

Hope you enjoy the night,

Sounds delish! Especially the fruit cup... fresh fruit is the way to my man's heart. Simple pleasures.

Cook him something that you like. If things go well, you will be sharing alot of meals together.

The first time my partner invited me for dinner, he told me that he didn't cook, and ordered a very nice Italian dinner. He has a beautiful kitchen, and has stocked it with lots of gaggets for me when I stay the weekends.

He loves rice, so I do a sautee with vadalia onion, fresh peppers and garlic, with shrimp or chicken (his choice), and I always make steamed or roasted vegetables on the side. We had a friend over yesterday, and really had a nice luncheon.

If you are experimenting, ask him what he likes. Comfort foods like meatloaf, mac and cheese, soups and stews are always great, and you can do most of the prep early on, and spend less time fussing when you are having your first glass of wine (or beer).

Here's to another budding cook!!

Okay, so send the recipe. And I'd like a side order of your avatar! There's nothing as nice as fresh buns with lasagne and a salad. Oh, by the way... no onions or garlic. One of the best evenings I ever had was in my first apartment with only a mattress on the floor and no furniture delivered yet... we sent out for pizza and had a bottle of dry red Italian wine lounging on the floor, lol. Don't ask me what dessert was!  ;) !oops!

oooooo you are awful .... but I like it!

mmm,im not sure.
maybe pizza?yea pizza or hamburgers and beer! much beer!
to say the truth,i would be more interested in that what you would offer me after the dinner!;)
