Core Duo or Core 2 Duo???

Core 2 Duo is better, the Core Duo is an old knock-off of the pentium 4, the C2D has a completely new architecture, and is thus much more efficient and faster. Higher GHz no longer means better or faster. If you take a 3.0Ghz Pentium 4 and put it up against a 2.0Ghz C2D, the C2D wins every time. Why? Because the C2D is more efficient, it doesn't send information from A to B via Z, X, and Y, as older processors like the P4 and Core would. Thus it doesn't need to have as fast an operating speed (GHz) because the information doesn't have "as far to travel". And since the operating speed is lower, the thermal usage is lower, and the power consumption is lower. So you end up with a processor that's exponentially faster, more efficient, takes less power, and puts off less heat.

Core Duo is the old architecture
Core 2 Duo is the new architecture. They work in different ways but do the same work. What we need to know is the model number, or the "number" they put besides it, the T5250, T7250, T7500 etc

The Core Duo is an older design that is mainly intended for everyday desktop use, the Core 2 Duo is newer and is more geared to performance such as gaming, something which my C2D has acquitted itself very well off.

I don't understand why they didn't call it "Core Duo 2", but instead "Core 2 Duo".

Either way, why "2 duo" or "duo 2" ... WTF were they thinking?

I don't understand why they didn't call it "Core Duo 2", but instead "Core 2 Duo".

Because 'Core' is the name of the processor, 'Duo' is an adjective describing the number of processor cores it has (i.e. 2). Thus the processor is a 'Core 2', and it has two processor cores, thus the 'Duo'. The original intent was to have two lines of 'Core 2' processors, 'Core 2 Solo' and 'Core 2 Duo'. The 'Core 2 Solo' was cut before production began because of the instant popularity of dual-core processors. So now the two 'Core 2' product lines are the 'Core 2 Duo' (C2D) with two CPU cores, and 'Core 2 Quad' (C2Q) with four CPU cores.

Either way, why "2 duo" or "duo 2" ... WTF were they thinking?

I don't understand your "WTF"... What's your problem with the C2D?

IMO, its a marketing nightmare not to mention "duo" is two so its "Core 2 two" :)

Fine, I'll get the core 2 duo but if it's not as fast I'll blame you later...

If you're that skeptical, did it ever occur to you to look it up yourself????

Yahoo and Google aren't the number one and two websites on the internet because they have pretty logos people like to look at 50 times a day...
